: Lazer point eye damage question
Crash440 11-10-2003, 11:05 AM :emb4: YES I got the lazer light in my eye even tho I was told not to.... In my defense, weak defense, it was a ricochet off the mirror......
QUESTION:... this was almost a week ago and yes it hurt for a day or so and was fine after that.... but for the past 45min today i've been getting some stabbing pains in that eye... yes I know dr visit, but I don't have optical insurance and not sure if health ins covers accidental eye damage??
Anyone know anyone else as 'unskilled' as me with a lazer pointer and had this happen????
XJUSA 11-10-2003, 11:22 AM Many pirates have only one eye !:D :p
I know, that doesn't help ! ;)
Schly 11-10-2003, 11:28 AM Are you talking about a handheld laser pointer? If so, I seriously doubt that your eye was injured from a brief flash from one. They are really not that strong.
You may have something else going on with your eye but I wouldn't worry about damage from the pointer.
Also, I think if you got damage from the pointer, the pain would feel more like a scratchy irritation like you got sand or grit in your eye (like a flash burn from a welder).

lol... I'll get the make/model when I get home (if I can see well enough to get home lol) and look up the warnings.... prob something like "DO NOT LET ACCIDENT PRONE PERSONS NEAR UNIT"
LordRatner 11-10-2003, 11:38 AM the red dot itself is just a plain old laser pointer so you know where you are aiming... I am 99% sure your problem has nothing to do with the Light Amplification through Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

Dieselmh 11-10-2003, 11:52 AM Don't listen to them, if lasers aren't harmful, then why did they outlaw the use of:
Sharks with frickin' laser beams? :flipoff2:

Slowzuki 11-10-2003, 12:28 PM My gf's boss caught their 6 yo staring into one at a friends house, the kid said she had been staring at it for 2 or 3 minutes:eek:
She's fine though her mom freaked out. I seem to remember reading on the internet that the pointer/laser level ones won't do permanant damage, but the next class will?
