258 with plastic valve cover
From searching i've found that i can just use a filter on the rear most hole but havn't read anything about the hole closest to the oil cap. I would think it would be ok to just put a filter there also but not sure.
any help is very welcome
thanks

I perfer to run hoses offroad. On the street sure filters work just great. But I like reducing the possible sources of water gettin sucked in

ok after some searching on JU i found out that on the rear hole ... the CCV i can use a regular filter but the front hole by the oil cap is the PCV valve and that i need to keep it and run a vac. line to the intake manifold for vacuem to suck the fumes for the valve cover into the intake to be burned.
But if i don't care about emissions would the 2 filter work or should i run a PCV valve. And if i need the PCV where do i plug the vac line into on the intake
thanks if you could enlighten me

woa, you replyed just as i was,,,, Well on the water part i plan on staying as far away from mud and high water as possible. Mud kicked my cherokees ass and i'm trying to keep the wrangler out of it. Even if i did just run hoses does the valve cover need the vacuem from the intake or will open air filter setup work
thanks

I have just a filter (one of those hooded metal jobbies, its <gag> chrome. They don't make em in black, sadly) on that rear vent. I also have the PCV valve in the front, but not sure if its doing anything. My emissions system is pretty well gone, and and I'm not surre what the Weber carb uses of what's left. But anyway, to answer the question, fumes are coming out of there plenty fast, so I guess they're coming out anyway, vacuum or not.

My main concern would be water getting in, not fumes getting out.

Not sure about the little Jeeps, but here goes...

You should look at the underside of the valve cover before you stick a breather on any port/hole. On the V8 covers there are anti-splash gaurds to keep oil from shooting up into the breather. You may want to pull them to see which one, if any, have the guards and use those. If there aren't any, your guess is as good as the next guys. Try calling your local 4x4 shop. The good ones no all of the little stuff to keep you from messing up your stuff. They should want to give you the right advice to make you happy so you come back and also so they dont screw up their reputation.

ok well i put the filter element on the hole closest to the oil fill hole and put a PCV valve on the far back one. I read the book and it says that the PCV valve gets vacuem from the carter carb but i havea motorcraft 2100 on there So i just plugged it into a vacuem port on the carb

Hmmmm... should work then. Just check the element every now and then and keep an eye on it to see if it is getting saturated with oil. That will be a good indicator if it is a bad spot.
