I searched in the Jeep section but they're too busy trying to be hardcore to have simple, usefull tech :flipoff2:

Whats the perch width and WMS on a stock YJ? Front and rear..

Thanks
Dave

That guy im trying to.. well, sean is trying to buy axles off from said he wants 500 for the rear! and he thinks its 28 spl... I thought he was saying 500 for both since he has just stated he wanted to sell them as a pair....

The guy really is clueless. He also said they're narrowed and he sent me the WMS and they're still stock width  which is fine, but what an asshat.

Searching said 40.5" was the rear... he said it was 42" but then again, I doubt his ability to read and write at this point, let alone measure.

The rear is somewhere near 41" center pin to center pin. The WMS is 60.5" both front and rear.

Yep, rear spring width is around 40" and WMS is just at 60" from the factory.

He said it came out of a YJ, and it has been 'narrowed' to fit...

its 58" WMS to WMS..... and its probably a 28 spl rear end making it crap. And he doesnt know much of anything about the front.

WMS to WMS (wheel mounting surface) is total width.
Perch mounting is different.

The WMS of 58.5 (8.8) is fine, its close enough to 60"

the spring center to spring center is ~ 40 like said. I can measure tom for sure if you still need an EXACT #.

And if it is an 8.8 its not worth it. a 28spline 8.8 isnt much of an upgrade.

I know what the measurements are. I just dont know them on a YJ. Its not an 8.8, its a 9. we'd rather have that extra two tenths :flipoff2:

Keith: I think we're going to... but he also measured the perches at 2" wide each, so either it was under something else (Do CJ's have 2" leafs?... I have no idea) or he cant measure, in which case it might be wider and the perches are right, but thats a lot of assuming. I think we're just going to use the one we have. and narrow it. Perches are easy enough to make with hand tools and some patience.

CJ7's have 2 inch front and 2.5 rear. Older stuff can have 2 inch rear.

I think this guy is just a boner who bought something that he has no clue about. Im fairly sure its just a EB 9" w/ 28 spl and the perches moved. Im not sure about the front. We've got the Banjo 9" with shafts and a housing... stealing the brakes off the one I have, and prob getting a detroit then we need to find a center. Then make perches and weld em up. The tubes are 3.25" even from what I saw when searching.. so we can just buy a hole saw for it, some box tubing and toss em on.

THen its the front, what years did you say to get the front 44 from 250's out of?

If the rear 9" WMS is close to 58", then odds are it's from an EB, and probably has the small / expensive and hard to find 10" rear brakes drums, and small bearing ends. It'll almost pay you to find and an F150 4x4 9" and shorten it to the EB width, they have the 31 spline big bearing ends, most if not al the F150 4x4's had the 31 spline axles. Plus the 11" brakes with the 31 spline axles are mush cheaper to rebuild. Just finding a set of 10" drums is a PITA.

nothing wrong with the 9 under ford vans... 31 spline, 65" WMS, and the housing that doesnt need to be trussed as badly (depending on your application maybe not at all) i mention it b/c its my experience that vans are far more plentiful than 4x4 F150's at the yard... and i *think* 2wd F150's use 28 spline units. plus the F150's made the jump (or stumble, depending how you feel) to 8.8's much earlier than the vans, so you can get a newer 9" from an 85 or 86 van (if that sort of stuff is important)
