I'm swapping motors and I'm getting ready to pull my 4.0. Anyone know a trick to pulling the A/C lines without destroying them? My FSM says I need a specialty tool to do it, but I don't want to have to get one. Anyone?
TIA

You've been here a while and don't know not to post the same stuff in 2 forums

Why are you pulling the A/C lines? Just disconnect the A/C pump from the engine and lay it aside on the inner fender. Terry

Yeah, what Scout said. I swapped my 4.0 out of my 87 XJ a few years ago and did not have to disconnect any AC lines. Just use a bungy cord and secure it to one side and out of the way.

Yep, I swapped motor 4.0 for newer 4.0 and left all the stuff (intake, exhaust, alt, ac) dangling to the sides.

Any kind of pressure fitting that connects to a pump (power steering, air pump [gay smog], a/c) on the engine you usually dont have to remove. Just remove the belt, unbolt the pump, and lay it somewhere on the fender.

My A/C goes through the radiator. FWIW, Autozone sells two kits, one has the refrigeration tools and the other has the tools for refrigeration and fuel lines - same price...

HUH?? It goes thru the condenser not that radiator. Unbolt everything and set it to the side (Condenser can by moved too but not needed) Then you don't have to get it recharged, or get in trouble for Discharging it into the atmosphere.

I didn't discharge it - I recovered it. On mine, there is the compressor which is on the motor. It runs to a canister mounted to the firewall. Lines from the canister run through the firewall AND into the radiator. Also, a line from the compressor ran into the radiator...
