: Anyone still trying to get in shape?
white knight 11-11-2003, 11:30 AM Haven't checked in as often but didn't see if you guys are still holding the weekely weigh in.
After one year of doing nothing in the gym and yes smoking, (I started smoking again a year ago), I quit smoking and started working out. It's been about 3-4 weeks and I find it extremely frustrating.
I have been doing the right things and have seen zippo in results . Arrrgggggg!!!!!
To top things off, I now need shoulder surgery.
So? Anyone else out there trying to get in better shape........ for Xmas maybe ?
surveyboy 11-11-2003, 11:35 AM round is a shape :D
95steel 11-11-2003, 11:38 AM Yes. Know the feeling of frustration. I hate not being able to do what I used to be able to do. My old warm up weights are now my max! Seven or eight years ago I won a few powerlifting comps. Now these little jackass's at the gym want to see me lift the same weights. I have to tell them I can't do that anymore, then they accuse me of having used roids. That is what pisses me off, never used anything other than hard work and dedication. ARRRRGH starting to get mad thinking about it. I worked my butt off and won, now half the guys I competed against are positive that I was a user.
Think I'll go have a beer now.
The Jerk 11-11-2003, 11:40 AM hell i noticed a difference in just my habits changing. i stopped drinking alot (4-5 times a week down to maybe 1-2 times if that) thats since febuary, stopped eating out so much and just getting meals at the store. and walking on th tread mill 3 times aweek for 15 min or so. i went from 185 to 165 in 8 months. i wasnt trying to lose weight or anything, just cut down on some stuff and get mroe energy. now im working out more to get more defined etc...... jiMMy
Del taco 11-11-2003, 11:43 AM yep.
tired of being a fat boy.
saw pics from the fam-reunion last aug...and was horrified.
im freakish. i hate myself. id kick myself in the nuts if i ever saw myself walking around acting all cool looking like that.
i must now starve and treadmill myself until death. death to me. kill kil kil i must die.
Well...since I own no vehicle and my lifestyle has changed quite a bit... My pants are now falling down. :p Too bad for the feetsies though...I need a foot massage dammit!!!
rusted 11-11-2003, 11:45 AM 6 months after I stopped drinking, my metabolism changed. I dropped weight fast, with minimal working out and an irresponsible diet. I went from 222 to 172 in the last 9 months.
Man boobs: gone. Remember, beer stimulates estrogen and progesterone production in the male gonads, it's worse than MJ! Hahaha, beer drinkers, your balls are shrinking and your tits are a-grown'!!! :flipoff2:
Anyway, for those of you working, keep it up, good luck!

I'm still stumbling through my workouts and staying the same weight. I only have one chin and I feel better but haven't lost any weight in months.

Yup, I gained weight too- about 10 lbs but the smoking was the worse part. I want to get back into that kind of shape again . Rebuilding the truck is what does me in. No time left for anything else. Trucks is done , again so here I go again.
Keep it up. Consistency is the key .... now I have to believe it too :)

Not as big as MattS' .. I hear he is working out again... although, eating 30 punds of sushi and seaweed is not my idea of a fun lunch.
Priest 11-11-2003, 01:02 PM I've been at it for about a month and a half. I'm walking a couple miles after work each day and I seriously cut my calorie intake. Lot's of lean protein(chicken, fish, and lean pork) with low fat and low carbs. I have cut out red meat almost entirely(have eaten red meat twice in the last month and a half... lean cuts, small portions). Also cut back drastically on salt. I cut out all caffine and soda... just water for me except for the ocassional diet 7up. I'm starting to see results but it's slow. People have made comments to me about it but I don't see it because I look at myself everyday and I don't have a scale.
Trying my hardest to stick with it .
Entropy 11-11-2003, 01:05 PM Don't suppose anyone knows how to GAIN weight?
Seriously.
I am a skinny bastard and would like to put on 15 or 20 pounds. Weight gainer just makes me shit more.
Deep South Cruisers 11-11-2003, 01:07 PM eat peanut butter before you go to bed, back that with 6 beers and you should be busting out.

I tried peanut butter... I love peanut butter and I ate so much of it one month I started getting sick eating it.
I am not really going for liver damage as a side effect either. I am a social drinker and I don't really drink unless I am at a party or on pool league nights.

Thanks a bunch Rox.... it's tough but I've been a pudgemeister long enough and I'm trying to do something about it.:D Thanks for the support.
95steel 11-11-2003, 01:20 PM Entropy, Train with weights and eat 4-6 medium sized meals a day. It will take a while but you will be able to maintain the weight gain a lot better than any lard diet. Get in a gym and consult with a trainer. He/she should tell you the basics. You will want to be on a 40% carb, 40% protien, and 20% fat diet. Don't know your resing metabolic rate so I don't have a total caloric intake # but don't be surprised if it is 4-5,000. When I played foot ball it was extremely hard for me to maintain over 200lbs. If I skipped one meal I would be back down to 195. It took me a year to get over 200lbs. The weight gainer stuff sucks, you are better off with Met-rx or something comparable. Beer does help maintain weight, but too much beer does not.

I don't know what my whatever-that-is metabolic rate is either... but I know I can eat whatever and however much I want and it just makes me shit more, or shit different. I am like a human garbage disposal.
Every time someone mentions something they can't eat for that carb diet thing, I eat more of it. Which works for me, cause I love mashed 'taters.
Doesn't make a difference though.
I figured I would end up at a gym though. I have to admit, I didn't really want to drag my skinny ass in there with a bunch of muscle bods showing off.
Everyone I have asked so far, either makes smart ass comments about giving me some of their weight, or they tell me to wait until I hit 35. Except my Dad and my Mom are both close to 50 now and neither one could be considered overweight. With that in mind, I wouldn't say I am really fearing a mid-life bloat out with matching pot belly.
Berzerker 11-11-2003, 01:35 PM Well I'm not trying "Get in shape" but since I stopped drinking two weeks ago and just in general stopped abusing my body after doing it all summer long I fell 100 times better :p
Plus I've started playing basket ball for a few hours a day around 4 times a week. I don't have a scale or anything nor do I care but damn its nice not being a lazy bastard anymore :D
95steel 11-11-2003, 01:38 PM True, I worked as a personal trainer through college. Gaining weight is 10x harder than loosing it. Made my money off of people trying to loose 20-30 lbs. Your biggest obstacle will be consitancy of training and diet. Don't worry about some insecure moron making fun of you. You would be surprised, 90% of my clients were wemen and they would much rather have a guy with good mucle tone than some zit covered freak with nuts the size of bb's. If you do decide to go the gym route just do yourself a favor and have a personal trainer show you the ropes. It costs a little money up front, but learning how to train right will keep you from hurting yourself and will allow you to make better gains in the gym. Right now I am training a friend of mines wife, in return he is teaching me how to weld.
HighToy 11-11-2003, 01:42 PM For those of you working out you have to remeber not to look at your weight but measure your waste. Muscle weighs more than fat.
I myself am looking at a home weight set to start redistribution of some of my 195lbs. :D
