The big brown truck just dropped off my TeraLow 4:1's for my 300. Looks like a pretty complete package: 5 gears, 1 new shift rail, 4 poppet shims (for twin stick use), gasket & seal kit, a sticker, a hat and "instructions". Let me just say that the "instructions" suck ass. First off, they sent me "instructions" for the Low300 kit, not the Low300SC kit which I ordered. My guess is that Low300SC "instructions" don't even exist. Anyway the ones they sent are for the Jeep kit and shows an exploded view of the Jeep 300. The "instructions" are as follows: "Follow the instructions in the Jeep service manual with this exception: install shift rail #11 before installing the intermediate gear." That's it... nothing more. Well, there are some differences between the Scout 300 and the Jeep 300 and the Scout 300 is not covered in the '78-'80 Scout II service manual, so I guess Scout owners are just on their own. I'm glad I've rebuilt a Scout 300 before and was not counting on the "instructions" included in the kit to guide me on the install. Hell, the exploded view even refers to two of the gears as "sliding drive gears" when NONE of the gears in 300 slide. You'd think that for the $$$ TeraFlex could get their shit together.

I was also pretty disappointed in the poor instructions. I recommend that you take a look at the install instructions here:

Believe me getting the big gear in is like a puzzle. It is going to take you a while. After grinding to get the big gear to clear you are going to have a small hole in the T case. I made a little steel plate to cover the hole and then put epoxy steel all around the plate. Take your time to make sure all of the grinding is cleaned out completely. When you are trying to get the big gear in it is helpfull to not have any of the covers tightend down. You will need all the wiggle room you can get.

I just browsed the above site and noticed that the grinding they show is totally a different area than the grinding you do on the scout 300. On the scout you have to grind inside the case. I hope you have one of those little die grinders because it is hard to girind in there where you need to and you don't want to grind any more than nessasary.

That notch they show on the bottom cover area would really help in getting the gear in and out. I didn't grind that notch because it wasn't in the instructions I had and I didn't want to grind any more than nessasary because I was afraid it might weeken the case. You don't have to have that notch they show.

Warning do not use the Terra gears heavily in high range 4wd. You will kill the two small gears because they are a two piece press fit together desing. Ask me how I know!! I have pictures if somone wants to see them or post them here. I'm pretty unhappy with the design. Too bad Lo Max doesn't make a 6 spline moddel.
I am going to put the Dana gears back in my Cummins powered scout because I never want that failure again. Terra Did send me a new gear set so I guess the 4 to 1 is going to go into my Nissan powered scout. They should live behind the little diesel and the close ratio T19.

You can't help but use one of the small gears all the time.... it's the bull gear.

Yes but in low range the torque on the bull gear is 1/4 for an = amount at the axle.
