Ive seen the smilies used on other "v bulletin" boards.

so, are the copyrighted by jelsoft or clifford creations?

since they are used on a public board, do the become 'public' images?

The original images that were included with the software package are ©Jelsoft.
The addinional smilies that have been put in as Customized images are ©Clifford Creations.

Jelsoft has the ©on the original unmodified BBS program.
Clifford Creations has the © on all content, including any uploaded images that are not otherwise copyrighted as they were submitted to this site without any further legal agreements.

Dude, just accept that they are not in the public domain.
If you want to use 'em, either buy a copy somewhere, or make your own.

You can also look on the web for other images that are freebies. Check some of the free software packages too like PhpBB and YaBB

Whoa whoa whoa! Noone owns any content or uploaded images except their original copyright holders. I own the copyright this posting. You don't need any legal agreements to maintain your copyright ownership.
