Ok i have been working on my disc brake conversion for a month now and i am so close to being finished. It is hard to get stuff done when you have to work and go to school full time. Anyway my question is for all of you who have swapped discs on the front of your EB with a d44 up front. The rear brakes locked up waaaaaayy too early so i decided to swap in a 77 master cylinder cause it came stock with discs. My problem is that the rod from the master culinder is too short to connect with my brake pedal. I don't know what to do. I got the new master cylinder from napa auto parts. Has anyone ever done this before. Am i going to have to cut the rod and thread the ends to make it adjustable or something. I am at a loss, and i am sooo freakin close to finishing. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Sooo are you trying to put a power master cylinder on a non power set-up? Im not sure if you can but you might be able to remove the rod from your old setup and put it in the new one. I think its held on by a C clip. You might be better off just putting a adjustable proportioning valve in. They are only like $50 bucks.

Did the 77's come with a power booster?? i didn't realize that. i ended up useing my old rod. It worked great, now all i need to do is bleed the brakes and take it for a test drive. i am just waiting on my insurance to come through in case i crash into something.....let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that doesnt happen.:D :D
The rears may be locking due to the lack of a proportioning valve.

The 77's did have a brake booster.
Try willwood for an adjustable proportioning valve it works great and you can fine tune it for whatever you are doing. Good luck with it.

There shouldn't be any difference between power/manual master cylinders. When I converted mine I just swapped M/Cs and there was no problems (other than bending the lines to clear the throttle linkage) and yes, your brakes are locking up because you need a proportioning valve. Just get an adjustable one and plumb it into the rear circuit, you can run the fronts right off the M/C (just remember the front circuit is the one with the larger reservoir, on discs anyway). And actually, I remember talking to the guys at K-Bar S (remember those guys) and they said discs were standard in '76 and '77 but not neccessarily power and that Ford set them up with a spacer for the M/C and a longer rod to clear the throttle linkage and that those parts are hard to find. Anybody ever hear of that before:confused: ........Hans

also remember, you can use the stock drum MC with the discs all you need is a #6 sheet metal screw to pull out the residual check valve.

Thanks for all your help. I did end up using a 77 master cylinder with my stock push rod. I also put an adjustable valve in the rear line. Thanks to my buddy Lars, i figured out that i had the lines switched. I actually think they were switched when i bought the bronco, no wonder the brakes were never that good. To think i was running them backwards for 5 years. I think the disc front made it way more noticeable, i may not have even needed the valve in the rear line. Who knows. Anyways i wanted to thank all of you for your input. I appreciate it and i know my parents do cause my bronco is a lot safer now.
