I am helping a friend out on his 97 Rodeo and we are having starting issues. His ECM relay is sticking closed. You can turn the ignition off, and take the key out and it stays stuck.
First thing I checked was the ignition switch. It tested good. The relay was stuck closed and we pulled the pigtail out of the ignition switch the relay stayed closed so it's not getting the power form the ignition switch.
We checked the diodes in the ECM they are all good.
All frame grounds and body groung points have been cleaned and put back. The wiring on the inside of the truck is completely exposed where we can look at it.
We see no shorts, or freyed wires.
One more symptom, we noticed the dash lights were staying lit when the relay was stuck so we started pulling fuses to see what would make the dash lights go out.
We pulled every fuse in the fuse box and all of them under the hood. The dash lights never went out. We pulled the ECM relay they go out.
What could we check now?
