fixing an auto tranny in a 90 pathfinder

he guys i am new to nissans so help me out i got a 90 path finder with a v6, the engine runs great but the tranny does not go into reverse and slipps badly going forward . i have been qoted alot of money to fix it. i was wondering if it was worth doing a five speed convertion or if any of you guys had an extra tranny laying around any help would be great

Call pick and pull....they will help you get rid of that nissan:D

well they are not alll that bad to pull, release the tension on the torsion bars, and remove the bolts for the torsion on the lower a arm, remove torsion crossmember, noteing the position of the bars on the a-arm end, of coarse unhook the battery, te t-case and trans are seperateable, just have a lot of bolts, keep an eye on the linkage for the t-case I usually leave it connected to the t-case, just pull the knob off the shifter. pull the starter out of the way, after removing the front skid plate, then get in there with a long extension and remove the converter bolts. there are brakets going from the motor to bellhousing that have to be removed on the passenger side to get access to the converter bolts. take the trans to the trans shop, one of the planets is probably wasted, and sends metal through the valve body and to the electronics. installation oppposite of removal, except this time you add fluid.

that doesn't leave much else does it? :D

I'd go to a bone yard and try to find one. If you want to mess with a five speed you could go that route. What do you plan on doing with it? The auto should be fine if you put a new/rebuilt one back in, or just get the one from a bone yard and try to make that last a while.

builders labor, and of coarse the mark up for the salesman at 10 percent. could be a really bad pull like a acura vigor.:flipoff2:

My auto tranny went out in my '91 Pathfinder at about 90k. The guy at the shop that it was normal for them to fail in the 90k range due to a bad oil path and lack of cooling.

So, when I had it replaced the guy said that since my Pathfinder was body lifted that i'd save $400 in labor to remove and install the tranny. He even tells/asks people that they might want to get that done before having the tranny work...hehe

I was also 1k miles out of warranty coverage!!!

So, the shop also added a huge tranny cooler to help with the temps.
