but i think i know how to solve that problem...but the other prob am having is when it is
in 2wd or 4wd it sounds like gears are grinding inside...sometimes if i hold onto the shifter
it stops makin noise...And before anyone asks...YES IT DOSE HAVE OIL IN IT...what could

I bought a used 205, and when I put it in it did exactly the same thing, but i had no shifters, so i couldn't stop it. In my case, the grinding noise was worse when i let of the gas or hit the brakes, but not bad in neutral while rolling. I disassembled it last week, and ordered a rebuild kit from Drivetrain Wharehouse for $160. The problem turned out to be a worn pin that holds the shift fork to the shift rail. The rear cluster gear ring was moving back and forth about 1/2" and contacting the the cluster gear for neutral when it was supposed to be in 2-hi. While i am in there i am going to take out the rods that control shift points, to get 2-low-front, and 2-hi-front as well. Looks like you guys have a rebuild in your future...
Good Luck!

put something on the shifter, in winter i put an extra glove on it.
a soft heavy piece of foam or rubber hose would dampen the noise

Sounds like a rebuild soon....As for the rattling shifter I take a "old" spring bushing and cut it down to use it as washers on each side of the shifter mount.....quiet now......:D :p
