: Anyone have security posts at work?
Renee 11-13-2003, 12:23 PM Ok, so obviously working for a larger company, we have security posts at every entrance. In our building particularly, we have metal detectors because of the product stored in our building.
To make a long story short, today I was leaving work and the metal detector went off when I walked through it. I had removed everything on me, and it still went off. So I stepped aside to be hand wanded. The "security officer" told me I needed to remove my belt. I told her no, and she looked at me with a deer in headlights look. I asked her why and she said it was the rule. But I wear a belt almost every day, and have never been asked nor have I seen anyone else be asked to remove their belt. Anywho, it was this big thing because I wouldn't take off my belt. 15 minutes later, I'm finally out of the building.
When I got back to work I found out security had filed a report on me and asked for corrective action.
So was I wrong?
convertiyota 11-13-2003, 12:24 PM Were you afraid your pants were going to fall down??
Roxywheels 11-13-2003, 12:27 PM I had to remove my belt going thru airport security. Would you have refused them? I'd say to think of it as something for your own safety. :roxy:

At the airport it makes a little more sense, and it is consistent, so no I would not have refused. They ask EVERYONE to remove their belts. They do not single people out.
Security could not give me a reason why I had to remove my belt, therefore I wasn't going to. Stubborn, I know.

Get the ladies hiking through in thongs and bras:grinpimp:
Schly 11-13-2003, 12:33 PM Will you take off your belt for me? :D
MiniMog 11-13-2003, 12:37 PM Our security guard is huge and you do what he says or he will burn holes through you with his eyes....
Seriously if it is in your HR manual or contract to follow the rules then you were wrong (if you signed). But if not then its that gray area thing....up to the boss.
Do you work with easily stealable (its a word now) items?? Would they fit behind your belt? If so then you could be leaving yourself open to something.
LandCroozer 11-13-2003, 12:46 PM Good for you. Stick it to The Man!
Do not become a sheep and let them take away your rights and dehumanize you.
Although if your employment contract contains a clause that says "by taking the job, you consent to searches when entering or leaving the building" then prepared to be fired.

TexasBlake 11-13-2003, 12:50 PM The other night I ran through the security gate at school. A dually going 20mph breaks one of those little gates that lift up and down like it ain't shit.

When I went to Vt Tech for my senior year hs/freshman year college I hopped a ride on a 1-ton dually to a kegger in the middle of nowhere once. We got to the bottom of the road leading up and everybody had parked there because it was gated. The guy driving just nosed up to the gate and pushed it open :D When we got to the top everybody had ran and hid in the bushes cuz they thought we were the cops

No, I didn't do it on purpose. I saw about 3 or 4 cars going through the gate, so of course I didn't think it would close.
Then the Jamacian mother fucker security guard closed it about 5 feet in front of me. What did he think he was going to do? Stop a 6400 pound truck?
rusted 11-13-2003, 01:07 PM Tell those gaurds to pound those security posts up their ass with a hammer.
Renee 11-13-2003, 01:09 PM And the truth comes out. The "officer" said I repeatedly swore at her. Now this makes it my word against hers. Guess I'll have to stab her in the neck with a fork.

Got surveillance cameras? Bet you do. And I bet the tapes will be "defective" if you try to push the issue

That works more to PG's advantage than Security's. 1 on 1..... and one obviously has an axe to grind.

Bubba Ray Boudreaux 11-13-2003, 07:53 PM We don't have those kinds of problems at my metal detectors. Don't take your crap off, you ain't coming in. You still want to come in, then it's time to smear the queer and 1 against 6 ain't that all good betting odds in Vegas.......................................Of course we will be nice to you and give you a free room for awhile next door...............:flipoff2:
ToyFord 11-13-2003, 08:59 PM Oh but wouldn't you have felt ever so much safer if you had taken off your belt? IMHO seceurity is a risk (liability) management tool. Lord knows I feel ever so secure with the new $40k system they put in at work that is routinely ignored due to false alarms on a weekly basis. So far as I can tell it's made it easier to lock us in and keep us out but more secure as we work? Ha.
criscfer 11-13-2003, 09:08 PM Take off your belt. S-l-o-w-l-y......... that's it, not to fast.
