I think I'm gonna look at buying a 2nd generation 4Runner to drive every day and just wanted to know if there was anything I needed to look out for as far as motor, body, tranny, interior, susp., etc. I own a 1st generation as my wheeler but find myself in need of a reliable form of transportation for the time being. I can't seem to dig up the money for a diesel right now. I know nothing about Toyota's V6 or the 2nd generation at all so enlighten me. Good experiences? Bad experiences? Strengths? Weaknesses? Lemme know. Thanks!:D

I think you can get a second gen with a 2.7 liter 4 banger. If it were me I would get another nice 1st gen 4runner for 1000 bucks with a dead motor, and then drop a rebuilt one in it.

2.7 is a 3rd Gen motor.

If it's going to be strictly daily use, no plans for major mods, I'd look at a 3rd Gen if you can afford it. They aren't built as solid, but the engines are more powerful, and the 3.4 is much better than the 3.0.
