: Anyone know what the caster should be on an 80 series?

Probably the same as anything else, but thought I'd ask.

I have a friend that just had his 80 serier knuckle cut/turned and they set the caster at +6 and he is VERY happy with the way it handles on the road now.

Err, I think he means -6 degree. 6 degree positive would grab every line in the road. You want negative castor. Stock castor on FJ40 is -1 degree. Most people set it back to around -4.

You've got it backwards, Judge. Positive caster is what you want.

Stock is 3 deg +- 1deg.

Wow, that sounds like a lot of work. Couldn't he have modified the radius arm mounts a bit instead?

FJ-80's are super heavy beasts. THe radius arms on these things are solid steel I-Beams. Unbreakable, they are crash tested up to 50K lbs or something.

THe only aftermarket arms made to support the weight of the '80 are made by Outback Suspension.

They are nice, but they are more $$ than the cut/turn, over $1,000.

They also make offset bushings to help keep it at stock caster when lifted.

I've seen guys move the forward holes in the axle mounts too.
