: Who makes 40 Spline FF shafts?

So I know that Superior makes up to a 40 spline front shaft for a D60...who makes a 40 spline rear shaft for a dana 60 or corp 14 FF? I know the spindle on most 60's can't be made the ~1.73" that it needs to be for a shaft and the corp 14 will just barely go...

I guess I'm saying I'll deal with how to run it as soon as I can find someone that makes one...

Moser does make a 40 spline SF but that's not what I'm looking
for.

Pretty sure they ain't gonna be cheap too...

Thanks for the help guys.

sandy cone built my front and rear 40 spline 300m gun drilled shafts

he also built the spnindle and bubs for them as well as the parts to make my ARB 40 spline

fyi.....40 spline is 1.710 but yer close enuff :D

Shoulda just sent you a msg and skipped the thread...haha

Can you give me an idea of what a shaft might cost me? I'll give him a call anyway but I'm just tryin' to figure if it's even worth his time talking to me.

$400 a piece, a pair, per hour? :D

depends what ya want

my 300m 1.710 gun drilled were about $650 a pair

without gundrilling is about 100 less

4340 cromo would be less another 150 to 200

i went from this to this :D

the shafts are the easy part

you also need spindles
hubs
drive plates
and a locker

What are the spindles made out of?

Why the .270" in clearance...damn, let me finish before you send another already!!! LOL

Do the axle shafts run that out of true that they need that much clearance?

spindles are also used for the 46 spline shafts so they are over size for the little baby 40 stuff

spindles are 4340

So are you breaking a FF14bolt often enough to warrant $700 in shafts? Or just "browsing" ??

Just curious what you are running if you are...

Oh, and Camo how much does Sandy charge to setup a detroit/arb for the 40 spline shafts?

I`d imagine this would run more than the actual shafts themselves... unless of course they made this part for a larger splined shaft to begin with and can just swap it in with some mods

Superior can custom make them in chro mo as well.

detroit now builds a 40 spline locker

sandy will convert your ARB for around $250

Not that I'm breaking the 40 spline stuff but I've learned over the years that the 'build it right once' method of logic seems to work much better than the 'throw money at it until it doens't break again' way.

Different than Camo, I came from the drag racing crowd where a 35 spline gun drilled shaft was damn unbreakable...but I've seen them break. I've drifted away from the SF because of the benefits of the FF but have been dissappointed that the aftermarket crowd only sells the 40 splines in SF. Oddly the difference in price is minimal and when considering the benefits, the difference to go FF is well worth the cash.

I'm looking into making a replacement spindle for the corp 14 hub so I don't have to go all out Camo on it but if I can't make it work, I'll have no choice to pony up for the big boy stuff.

Detroits are nice but I've seen no difference between them and a spool and with parts as thick as we're talkin', all I'll worry about is the R&P and those are affordable.

Camo, you're running a drive flange eh? Guess that means that the axles are double splined...not a biggie I guess. What are your drive flanges made out of?

Thanks for the help by the way...

look closely at the gold colored part. it is the drive flange. it is made from heat treated 4340. the hubs are aluminum.

sandy also makes a drive flange to use in a stock hub like i was saying.

whats the weight difference on that gun drilled 40 spline 300m shaft vs a solid one?

The cool thing about Camo's setup - If you ever need a rifle scope - you can take those little blue caps off each drive flange and look through to the other side.:D

Where you been hiding all these "new" photos Camo? I didn't see some of these during the buildup.
