: Pushing TJ rear axle back

If I was gonna build my own long arms, how far could I move my back axle back without having to move the spring perches and track bar mount? I know I will need to move the gas tank too. I want a little long wheelbase and some help with the drive shaft angle.

Thanks

I would think you couldn't move the axle back much at all without moving the upper mount also. You'll already be putting some stress on the trackbar mounts and springs from having to rotate the rear axle for the driveshaft alignment after a lift. You could always put in a D300 and flip it - for correct front driveshaft placement - and gain approx 4 to 5 inches of rear driveshaft.

If you have to ask, you probably shouldn't be attempting. :D

I'm sorry, I thought that's part of what this board was all about

It is, and it isn't. This isn't a simple problem, and the questions are rudimentary. I agree - you shouldn't attempt this if you're asking the questions you are.

Remember... college level. Not hand-hold-through-an-"extreme"-project level. :D

That was my point, without being too specific, thanks Paul.

Landon, there isn't any set answer when it comes to custom projects like this. It is a self engineering deal.

I'll see how it works out. As a Georgia Tech engineer I'm sure I'll figure something out. I wouldn't expect you could move it back much if any at all without moving the trackbar at least, but I thought I'd ask.

Thanks

You could go ahead and build a new trackbar frame mount and move it as far as you want but you will have to cut the fenders and switch to a fuel cell. You will also have to move the spring perch on the frame. I really don't think it will be very hard if you know how to weld.
