I've got a flat bedded pickup project that I'm going to replace/relocate the gas. And now I've got a few questions that I couldn't find an answer for after searching :)
I'm considering either a gas tank from a stock rig or a custom build unit at this time. A fuel cell is not really an option because I am looking for more than a 20 gallon capacity(street driven + possibly bad gas milage = need for large gas tank)
Quick specs:
~110" to 120" wheelbase
~5 foot flat bed centered on the axle(ie 30" on either side of axle)
~12-14" from frame bottom to flat bed bottom
Is it better to have the gas tank in front of or behind the axle?
Are there any issues with using a slightly odd shaped tank versus using a regular rectangular one? I'm considering one that is L shaped if you viewed it from the side.
Can anyone recommend a shop within about 200 miles of the SF Bay Area that has the capability of doing a custom gas tank?
What type of price should I expect to pay for a custom tank?
Any input on the subject would be appreciated.
