I have been searching for a Nailhead pattern TH400 with the BOP adapter form a Jeep Commando or J-series/Waggie, and I came across a piece of Information i need to verify.

Someone had posted on IFSJA that if you find any short shaft GM or BOP TH350 or TH400, the Dana 20 adapter from the TH400 in the FSJs and Jeepsters would bolt right on, thus allowing you to use the auot version Dana 20 on the GM transmission, without any further swapping. Can anyone verify this?

Is the TH400 you have from the Chevrolet 2wd?

Heres the plan, tell me if it should work or not.

231 Buick V6
Cadillac BOP TH400 short shaft tranny
Jeep TH400-Dana 20 adapter
Jeep Dana 20

No need for any special BS adapter, or anything out of the ordinary. See any problems?

Im trying to avoid the adapter, if at all possible. It adds ~2" , and I could use the 2" in the driveshaft.

According to what I have read, the Cadillac TH400 SHOULD work, and bolt right up to the Dana 20 adapter no sweat......

I will keep you in mind, however.. Thank you.

Yup, that's what I'm doing. Found an AMC TH400 with the adaptor and bolted it to a short shaft Buick Th400.

The adaptor does not add 2". The Universal or nailhead case is 2" shorter at the bellhousing than a normal Th400.

Ok, I had read that somewhere, but it was an isolated instance, so I didnt lend much credibility to it. Regardless, the use of the tranny without the adapter appeals to me much more.

Thank you so very much for the help. Any more advice you can lend, since youre doing the same thing?
