Like the title says we were on a search for a stranded familly in the snow when I got buried in a ditch: and that cool sound you know snap then gravel in the diff. Looks like it started with the u-joint and then I took the ears off the shaft since I kept on the stupid pedal to help the winch.

So what do I upgrade to?? Must be a stronger u-joint or shaft. It's a Currie using warn hubs with only about 2000 miles on it, think I will have any luck asking for a warranty??? HaHaHa

Of course the fun part was getting back off the mountain in 2 wheel drive, what a night. I will post a pic tomorrow if anyone wants to see.

try to see if you can get Chromoly shafts for that (I'm guessing it uses 297 U-joints and 5 lug wheel pattern?) and get some CTM U-joints, that will hold real well. Also people have been having good luck with spicers new replacment for the 297, search in general 4x4 and you will find lots of info on both U-joints

Ya can always send it back to Currie and for $7000 they'd be happy to hybrid it with super duty outers and U joints.
Otherwise ya got the same 297x U joint as D30/D44 front ends.

I just popped my Currie U joint on the drivers side last week. I checked into the hybrid (two hrs ago) and currie needs the whole axle sent to them.

Package: upgrade my current 9" to Dana 60 outers and new Brembo brakes, all yours for another $4k plus installation.

I told them not to bother - The stupid axle cost me $5.5k with ARB to start with. I'm going to look into dynatrac's HP high clearance dana 60s.

Have you used them? I haven't heard anything about them. They look about the same size to me.

They are the same size. Spicer is phasing out the 297's and beginning to use the 760's as a direct replacement. The new ones are cast differently and shaped a little different supposedly making them stronger than the 297's.

why not tell everyone the whole story. liek you posted on JU. about having the wheels cokced hard and stallin the winch out and mashing down on the gas pedal...dont cry when you do something stupid like pay way too much $$ for a HP 9" with the same u joints i have in my d30, then complain about the shit breaking when you have your wheels cut and the throttle mashed.

It sounds like I did the same thing as you. I broke the right side u-joint which also took the ears with it. Mine was all in one shabang. Called Currie to see a price for the new shafts from them. Seemed too much I think like 350-400 bucks. So then I got Mosers. Damn they look strong. They also have great customer service where I feel Currie lacks.:(

Wow, this is the first post by you that I haven't seen you describe in detail what you have planned for your Jeep! Looks like you still can't make up your mind on a simple little thing about someone elses opinion either! Have you tackled anything other than mommy's driveway yet? got pic's of it for proof? Other than the two dirt road pics you always post.

It's only cause they asked on JU how I did it. I am not saying is wasn't my fault. Most things that break have some driver error admit it or not. ;)

Jess,
I know from my limited time on here you do drive shafts, but can you get a deal on axle shafts and 5-760x joint?
