: Mickey Thompson Claws?

I've ridden on 33" MT/R's, and I'm sitting on 37" SSR's currently.... I've found myself a deal on 37" Baja Claws and I have no idea how they perform. They look fairly aggressive, kind of like an xterrain on roids. What says the pbb crowd?

I have never run either one of them, but after seeing them both on similar jeeps here's my conclusion.

The MTR's are far superior on rocks.
The Claws are somewhat better in the mud, but like the MTR require quite a bit of wheel speed to clean out.

Wear and street performance on both seem good.

For what I do, I would prefer the MTR - but a deal is a deal.

I have the 35" bias claws and they wear really fast. Plus the added bonus of flat spots in the cold mornings. On my trail rig flat spots don't matter but on a DD not fun. ALso they are loud for the road but for a trail tire they kick ass, strong sidewalls and sidebiters and the directional tread still bites on sidehills. Just my .02 do what you want with it.

My brother runs the 33 baja claw radials, airs them down to about 9 psi without beadlocks, and hooks up on everything. He is rolling a 92 XJ by the way.

I ran the 35" bias claws and went to 37" MT/Rs. The claws sucked on the rocks, loud on the road, sucked in the snow till I got down to about 1.5lbs but had great sidewalls and side biters. IMO, the MT/Rs out performed them all around, especially in the rocks.

Teh claws suck IMO, weak, loud, and wear pretty fast. I woudl suggest either Goodyear MTR's or TSL's (same noise, but better grip and less wear)

i've run a set of 35in radial claws for about two years now. i got a really good deal on them so i bought them. the radials are alot quieter compared to the bias claws. my tires have been alright for me. one of my buddies got like 20k out of a set of 33 radials and i think i could prolly get that out of mine. As far as a tire choice i would say go with some swampers or mtrs like every one is saying. i know my next set of tires will be a set of swamper sx's since i can't afford krawlers.

I've got a set of the radials on my 85 toyota, cut a sidewall, and in my opinion they only work well in the mud if your going forward. They are a really good road tire though, for the 100 miles a year I put on them.

Let me phrase it this way:

If you could get 37" for $125 a tire, would you buy them and use them or hold out for 36" IROK or 35" Krawlers that would be considerably more?

I've had 33" bias claws on my TJ for several months now. They see mostly road miles but a mud pit or rocks now and then. So far they are holding up great and performing very well. They are a PITA to balance but hey that is NTBs job.

For that price I would give em a try. Hell unless they are in horrible shape you can probably ebay for more in a couple months if you don't like them.

that is funny as hell because I now run the 38.5 claws on beadlocks on my offroad rig and they are the best rock tire I have ever had and I have had everything but the new crawler tire the only other wheeling I do is sand and snow and again the flotation of these by far is superior to a swamper and honestly the mtr has no comparison against anything with flotation although it is a good all around tire I am not putting it down but the question was about a claw. I have never ran a smaller size but know a lot of people that do and they love them.

I also ran a set of 38.5s on my superduty tow rig and liked them but I dont expect to get a cadilac ride out of an offroad tire.

I would run the claws for $125 a tire, should definatly be an improvement over your SSR's.

Thanks a lot guys :D Anyone looking for a set of 60% 37" SSR's with lots of chunks missing from the tread?
