How do I tell what carb I have on my cruiser? I know it's not the stock carb and the previous owner told me it was a weber but that's all he knows. I need to get a rebuild kit for it and I can't even tell what it is.....

Anybody got a site with specs for the weber?? Pics??

Here's a link to the USA distributor for Webers, look around and you will be able to tell if it is a Weber Redline Weber (http://www.redlineweber.com/) .

If it is a weber it will be a 38DGAS or 32/36DGxV. The 38 version has two barrels of the same size, and a gear type mechanism on the back that open's both at the same time. The 32/36 has different size barrels and is progressive.

If not a weber, then the common swaps are a Holley 2bbl, a Rochester 2bbl or NON USA Toyota carbs (Asin).

Post a pic or a description and someone will answer accurately much quicker.

Thanks for the info everyone. After searching around on the weber site, I decided it couldn't be a weber. So I soaked it in carb cleaner and cleaned the hell out of it. And right on the side it says "ASIAN......"

Anyway, here is the pic. Anybody have any info on these bad boys?? Good?? Bad?? Where can I get a rebuild kit from? Any place online with a good blow up parts shot??

THANKS!

Get the rebuild kit from Toyota. Aisan made the stock carbs for Toyota. Land Cruisers have parts from lots of contractors: Aisin/Aisan, Nippondenso, Yazaki, Mitsubishi, Hino, etc.

When a stock carb is in good tune it's hard to beat. Mudrak has a good carb guy that rebuilds the Aisans. There's a guy on the east coast that does nice rebuilds, or you can go with the toyota kit and a bunch of carb cleaner and DIY.

If all goes well I'll be swapping the stock carb out and going TBI on my 2F this winter. Will write it up.

Morgan is right: an Aisin in good shape is pretty hard to beat, especially off road. Rebuilding it isn't too tough if you pay attention to the details.

1. Get the Toyota factory engine manual that describes the carb rebuilding and ajustment.
2. Disassemble into 3 major pieces: the throttle body, the bowl and the top cover. Videotape the disassembly process or take digital pictures. Make notes of where the small parts go. Do not remove the throttle and choke butterflies.
3. Clean the metal parts in dip-type carb cleaner. Afterwards, wash the metal parts 2 times in either lacquer thinner or paint thinner. Blow out all the metal passages with compressed air or spray type carb cleaner. Pay particular attention to the tiny holes in the top cover and the jet venturis. Make sure the holes are free and not clogged with residue from the carb dip.
4. Get a carb kit from Napa or Toyota.
5. Put in the new parts and the cleaned parts. Refer to your pictures and notes to be sure they are back in the right place and the right orientation.
6. Adjust the float, idle, the high idle and the idle mix as described in the manual.
7. Reinstall.
It should be possible to do in an afternoon and it will cost you $50.
