when is enuff enuff? I started doing my rebulid 2 years ago and it still hasn't move since. my problem is some thing new comes out and so i think i need that on my ride. so far i have a 350 small block a 7004r trans friont and rear disc brakes arb in the front and lock right in rear. question is i get rid of the leafs and go coils or some other set up an atlas trans case 60 axsle etc. any way i don't doing any thing cause i dont know when enuff is enuff. p.s. my wheeling is rubicon, and moab trails 4 and 4 pluses. thanks.

I think alot of us on this board can share stories about how their Crusiers have gone through so many changes.

In the last 12 years that I have owned mine, I have gone through around 10 or more changes....

i suggest you wheel it and have some fun. then you will find out what you really need. you may find whelling is more fun than working on it all the time. i have three rigs, all cheap. one primary 88 lc, a zuk for emergency back up. and a project to throw money at. kind of sick but it works for me. this way i can still enjoy the trail while i am figuring things out. later mike

When I read landcruisers@tlca.org email and this board and Toyota Trails and sit around on my butt thinking, I start thinking I need Dana 60s, more horsepower, fuel injection, more lift, bigger tires, crazier suspension and more money.

Then I go wheeling and I'm happy. I have however poured plenty of time and money into my cruiser, following previous bouts of thinking and wrenching and spending.

Wheel it! I watched my friend James take his stock '78 FJ40 through the Rubicon in June. He had a great time and did a fine job. Only downer was when his puppy took a dump on his sleeping bag. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Get out and wheel the darn thing. Then decide what you need to upgrade/modify. Every time I think about swapping out the axles on my truck, I am reminded by my "other half" that I have not busted anything other than a birfield and a rear pinion in my last year of wheeling (not counting the engine that was sabotaged). So I just add the upgrade/mods to my "wish list". When I start breaking axle parts, I look at D60's. When I start breaking gears or shafts, I'll look at a better t-case. And when I need an additional 1.5 to 2.25" more ground clearance under my diff, I'll consider 37" to 39.5" tires. Until then, my FJ40 stays the way it is and gets wheeled.

get it where you can drive it and schedule your mods around your driving style, you will be much happier.

I know exactly what you are feeling. I have 2 rigs, one project one that i wheel and it seems i am always changing what i want to do to the project and braking my wheeler.
I have come to the conclusion that it is best to get something running and modify as you go. That way you learn, build and Wheel at the same time. and you get what you really want in the end.
