I am replacing my ax15/231 with an np435/203/205 set up in a 91 MJ with the 4.0 and have hit a minor snag. The engine computer needs the electronic speedo to work. The 205 doesn't have provisions for this. I searched and found people that swapped the newer engines in with jeep transfer cases but no information on using a 205.

Where can I find information on this?

Try the dealer for Chevrolet 1991 K3500 crew cab dually with an auto trans. I had one and it had a 4L80E trans with an NP205. It had the electronic output for the speedo.

It also has a different tail housing than the previous mechanical speedo versions.. I remember seeing a thread on here about a guy running the same setup , 435 203 205 and he took a early type tailhousing and made provisions for the electronic speedo. Also i think the output shaft is different,, it has a reluctor ring on it for the sensor to "see".

Im running the same setup also 435 203 205. I have mine rigged right now to run the factory TJ speedo sensor off part of the factory ford 205 mech. sender. Both the original ford speedo sender and the TJ speedo sensor have small square shafts that can be linked together with a short length of square tubing.. I think it is 1/8" or 5/32" square. Anyways it cost me about 50 cents and it works and it actually looks like it belongs there so im happy with it. :D I had doubts about it holding up at speed but i have had it up to approx. 70 mph for long duration with no problems.

You can probably get by without the speed sensor to the computer. I am running a '93 4.0L with a manual tranny computer, and no speed sensor. I've put about 10k miles on it like this and have not noticed any problems related to it not having the speed sensor signal. I suspect that the speed sensor would be more important w/ an automatic transmission that is controlled by the computer.

I tried running without mine hooked up once. It would start up fine of course and would run fine at cruise.. but when i would first let off the throttle and disengage the clutch it would drop about 200 - 250 rpm and come close to dying.. then the IAC would adjust to keep it from dying. This is a 98 TJ 6cyl. w/ manny tranny.
