just piss on em like a dawg:flipoff2:

how well do you need them marked?

if its so you can sort out tools among friends at the end of a weekend work party then its one thing.

If its to track dishonest bastards that borrow your shiat and don't givem back then its a harder problem.

For the tool party gig at my garage, I try to use only my tools and I ask anyone that brings tools like mine to tape dayglo tape around theirs and put an initial on it so It doesn't get mixed up.

If its at someone elses, I try to not bring out my tools in common with theres unless I have to, and then I mark mine when I get them out and try to clean them up and put them away before they get scattered.

It really sucks when 4 guys with craftsman tools get there shiat mixed up. sorting out who's sockets and extensions are who's is a big pain. Best to just use one set or mark the visiting tools.

Green high-vis lacquer masking tape and a marking pen works great.

I started engraving my initials on my spendy tools like torque wrenches, ratchets, oversized sockets, and box wrenches etc. Its a pain, but if one of these ends up missing and I find it in someone elses toolbox... :mad3:

You could use the marking paint like they use in yunkyards but it can be chipped off.

An electric engraver and I put my drivers license Number on them, that way if the cops find them they could (if they were so inclined) return them to me.:D

hey kodak

the uglier the better. I spray paint my tools, do not mask and make em look purty. I used to be on a crew, each guy had his own color. Makes it easier to sort out when your workin w/ a couple guys. and less likely to be stolen, I think the ugly factor helps this.

So now I just open my tool box and do an S right there in the drawer. So if you guys find any red craftsmen on the trail there mine :D

I agree that for most of you paint works best. Not too many of you mark them this way so it is quick and easy. It would take days for me to engrave my license # in the thousands of tools I own. Even a Craftsman 144pc set would take a long time to engrave your license # in each of them. I paint mine and everyone know whose they belong to--and its spottable from a distance. Plus I mark my tools a different color depending on where they belong. That way my truck tools stay in the truck and my garage tools stay there too.

Spray paint them pink and I bet no one would mix them up for fear of being :rainbow: . Or buy some brand of tools tools no one else you know has. I have a set from when I lived in Germany. Very easy to identify.

Hey, that works! That's what I do too. I once had a car stereo returned to me that had been stolen 5 years earlier. The police were cleaning out their warehouse and found my DL# on it.
Better late than never I guess.
