I've got a really nice HP 21" monitor sitting here but the image is "milky". Can anyone recommend a place in the bay area that does monitor repair?

Dang... my nice 21" "MAGIC" is streaking. There are very few mfg of monitors (most are rebadged).

Label on the back has "Wortmann AG Germany" Model 1A16
made in Thailand. I suspect this maybe the same as your "HP" monitor... any clues as to your mfg on yours?

Funny thing... "streaking" (black box will carry across the screen) should be a "leaky" capacitor. Probably a 5 cent item.... trick is to figure out WHICH one. :)

Can you take a photo of your "milky" display... just curious.

Tom... 90% of the time when a monitor is shadowing, it is a result of the video card being bad, not the monitor.

That is, if by shadowing, we are talking where bright and dark objects "carry" across the screen to the right of the bright or dark objects in a predictable repeating pattern...

Milky was the best way I could describe it. I'm don't feel like going through the hassel of lugging it up on the desk and hooking it up to get a pic. It looks opaq, washed out, milky...how ever you want to say it. Monitor worked fine when it left my bro's house and somewhere in the transport it got jacked.

During the move, was the monitor next to any large speakers or magnets? Just for grins, try degaussing it and see what happens....

I know it may sound silly....but Radio Shack advertises that they can fix anything. They don't do it instore they send it out to an electronics repair shop in the area.

I took a Clarion car stereo deck to my Car Stereo shop up here to get fixed because the RCA got shorted out.

Anyways, the work order paper I got back of the work that it had done had a list of manufacturerererers on it Radio Shack was also printed on it.

So I guess it all goes to the same place to get fixed.

Oh yeah, DON"T EVER OPEN YOUR MONITOR. Theres alot of juice in there that can make you deaded...hehe

Thanks!!!

Doh! Should have thought about that. Yep, most noticeable with the Pirate4x4 black back ground. It will streaking across the full screen in the region of the black box. Both right and left. Need to swap monitors with another computer to see if I get the same results.

Do they still make "SAMS PHOTO FACTS"? My uncle ran a "Mom and Pop" TV repair shop, and I used to love looking at the SAMS and scoping to to see if what I measured was close to their guide. In hind sight, some pretty good hands on training when I was 10 years old. Long time ago, forgotten most of what I learned (& TV's have changed a whole lot since then!)
