If you hold the button it, it'll accellerate but as soon as you let go, it stops, decels, doesn't maintain speed.
I know there are some smart people on this baord somewhere, and I don't have a Shop Manual. Thanks!

Does it use a diaphragm to pull the throttle open? Many times the diaphragm gets old and tears.

I don't know anything about it, I've never opened the hood. I don't think that would be teh problem, because you can hold the accel button and the peddle sucks in and the car accelerates.

Because when you hit the accel Button the vacuum supply is pulling the diaphragm. When you let go of the button the vacuum leaks out the crack in the diaphragm!

Ahhh. Hmmm. I wonder if the leak would be in the diaphram or is there enough vacuum to maintain acceleration due to a good diaphram, but a leak elsewhere? I had the car at a shop for 2 months and they couldn't figure it out, but the shop is full of morons, and they just plain suck.

Ok, so I'm sold on the idea of a torn diaphram, but is the diaphram in the "actuator"?
I'm trying to find a part to replace, and I've seen it listed as:
Cruise Control Servo $80.00
Cruise Control Unit $117.00
and as
Cruise Control Actuator $277.00
From what I can guess, they all sound like the same thing, but the price varies too much to be sure.
I don't live near a dealer, and I don't have a manual so I'm doing my best, without making things worse.
Thanks!

Yup the diaphram is inside the actuator.
