: Dana 20 or 300
spoolnaround 12-17-2001, 05:39 PM I am trying to figure out which t-case to get for my conv. What is the pros and cons to a Dana 20 and a 300? What is the length of each? Strength? Waht I need is a center out put passenger side drop and short as possible.
go with the d300, yah can upgrade the output to 32 spline. on the other hand the 20 is better if yah flat tow, it has a true neutral. twin stick and 4 to 1 kits are available for both as well as any adapter you could want. im not sure how long the 20 is but i know the d300 is shorter than an atlas.
spoolnaround 12-17-2001, 05:50 PM I flat toe right now but I hopefully will be getting a trailor soon. I am putting an SM 420 in so I will need an adapter, I plan on going with a Terra Low 4:1 and the gears are a little cheaper for the 300. I think my main concern right now is the length and strength of each unit.
Scout Dude 12-17-2001, 06:51 PM Go 300...If nothing else, it has a universal bolt pattern...can be clocked up. Gears are cheaper...HD output available if you ever break ..twin stick available also...
CJ-Jeeper 12-17-2001, 07:01 PM Remember the Terra gears for the 20 are only 3.15:1
I'd go w/ the 300
yeah but obriens are deeper anyway ;)
apeters89 12-17-2001, 08:12 PM you're supposed to be able to clock the 300 up, and then not worry about flat-towing.
hightechdave 12-17-2001, 09:49 PM quit fawkin around, get an AtlasII

quit fawkin around, get an AtlasII Why waste your money on an AtlasII if you can get a perfectly good Dana 300 for less than a quarter of the price?

he's got a point though.. well in a way.. Far too often on this board anymore the answer is throw more money at it and buy from so and so. :flipoff2: Not saying its not valid in this case.. but Im gonna run a 300 instead of an atlas.. and see no problem with that.
WheelingPiazza 12-18-2001, 08:54 AM With the SM420 he will not beable to clock the d300.. The front drive shaft will hit the infamous 420 buldge..
On the other hand, I went with the 300 because you can get the 4 to 1 low vers the 3 something to 1 of the 20
Heres something to think about tho.. With teh 20 you can go Obrian gear set and go all the way down to 4.7 to 1 with bronco gears.. the case will need to be modifed and its not cheap..
I went the 300 because its an 1 shorter then the 20..

I know why an Atlas II is good, I just don't think it is always necessary.I would rather spend that money somewhere else. Not all of us can afford the latest and greatest of everything and not always is it necessary.
CJ-Jeeper 12-18-2001, 06:37 PM the reason I didn't mention O'brians gears is that only the 3.1 & 3.6 ratios can be put in a Jeep d20. The 4.1 & 4.86 ratios can only be put in the d18 & Bronco d20. Plus his gearsets are about the same price as an Atlass.
Lost_Soul 12-19-2001, 02:33 PM Go with the 300. Tera low kits for true 4:1 ratio are only 675.00. Unless you have money to burn, then go with the atlas:cool:
