: TBI to TPI conversion, worth it?

I have a 90 Silverado k1500 w/ a 350 tbi and 5 spd manual on 35x12.5s running 3.73 gears. I've mildly modded up my tbi engine (manifold, headers, exhaust, chip, throttle body spacer, fuel injector spacer, and cold air intake) and I'm not particularly happy with the performance. I've got 116k on this motor and am getting better performance and mileage out of it now than at 90k with no mods, but really it seems gutless at times. Has anyone done a tbi to tpi conversion, or installed tpi on any of there engines? If so, could you share you story? I'm looking for any pitfalls, good donors, what to look for and what not to get. My pipe dream plan is tpi w/ vortec heads. All in all is it just not worth the price? I'd love to know

I think your money would be better spent on 4.56 gears. Buddy of mine had a '93 setup very similar to yours, 6" lift, 5 spd, 350 w/similar mods (but no chip, spacers, or cold air), 35s w/4.56s, and I was impressed w/the performance of it compared to the Chevys we had.

I agree with Pete, gearing is more important at this point. Unless you go all out on that TPI (and I mean building a motor around it) like this one

you won't get much more out of it. Maybe a little bottom end, but that's all.

That's a 406.........and it ran like a raped ape.
