Frankie_Bones 11-24-2003, 10:11 PM I need to sync this camera:

With this flash:

for some gay christmas portrates my girlfriend wants me to take.
My guess is it synchs as 1/125th although 1/60th is the safe bet. It will ALWAYS work slower.
Frankie_Bones 11-24-2003, 10:15 PM and then just bracket right.
Halogrinder 11-24-2003, 10:15 PM thats easy!

Well the flash should have a guide on the side there for f stop and distance. that'll get ya real close, after that yea bracket.. Or find someone with a handheld meter ;)

Umm halogrinder I think you posted this photo in in the wrong thread.
:flipoff2:
Halogrinder 11-24-2003, 10:22 PM i did but i changed it....oops!
The synch should be a different color (normally red like this)

Then if you look at that ring on the side, you set the film speed then it'll show you the Fstop to use at the synch speed

bracket from there.

There is something called an auto thyristor sensor on the front of the flash that rotates and exposes a different color for each turn. On the side of the flash is a rotating dial that has an arrow that you line up with the film iso. that then aligns a color section with a ft. distance and an f stop, my question is does turning the auto thrristor to the color that corresponds with the distance compensate the intensity of the flash?

Theroretically. That flash is the model right below the one pictured ;) The thyrister basically gives you a bigger range of usage. If you look at my pic you'll see a serires of colors. Those are the distances you can use with the thyristor set to that color.
Frankie_Bones 11-24-2003, 10:35 PM so it will increase or decrease the flash inensity?

Within that distance range yes. Outside it it wont work for shit. I rarely used that feature, although it was nice for fairly fluid situations.
Frankie_Bones 11-24-2003, 10:46 PM One problem, my flash dosn't list a shutter speed to go with the fstop and distance.
http://imageshack.us/images02/meter.jpg
They wont. Shutter speed doesnt matter with the flash. Synch speed does :D
Frankie_Bones 11-24-2003, 10:54 PM Gotcha, my camera has an flash sync setting which lists the sync speeds, 90, 200, ect. so if I want to take a photo with my flash set like the photo I posted with 125 iso film and a distance of 40 ft, the guide says use a apeture of 4, so what flash sync speed would I use?
Frankie_Bones 11-24-2003, 10:56 PM I would just bracke using the 4 speeds my camera has huh, 60 90, 125 and 200.
Fastest, then bracket. Basically the strobe controls the amount of light. There's using ambient light with strobes as fillers too, but that's more typing than I wanna get into and without either a hand held meter or a lot of experience a pain in the tookus to do ;)
Oh and bracket with the aperature, leave the shutter speed alone for the most part ;)
Frankie_Bones 11-24-2003, 11:07 PM Cool thanks alot Mike, take the rest of the day off WITH PAY :D.
However if the pictures suck, you're FIRED:mad:!!!
