: SRS, lengthen wheelbase Project

I am in the planning process for a shackle reversal for my SOA YJ. I am wanting to have the front spring hanger up as tight as I can to the frame rail in the front and will put the shackle mount in the frame for the rear. I would like to have a front mount like sceep does in this thread (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=169989&highlight=shackle+reversal) I think I can accomplish this with minimal problems. What I am not sure of is what I need to do to get the axle about 2" further forward. I thought I could use a waggy spring but after the reversal I would not gain any wheelbase since the pin is offset and only gains axle movement when mounted in the forward direction.

Is there a spring I could use to move the axle forward or will I just have to redrill the pin hole on a waggy set? And if I do redrill the pin hole will that cause the springs to break or be substantially weak in that point? I have redrilled springs before but only when adding one oddball leaf to a pack.

I realize that my pinion and caster angles will be off and I was thinking I may try to use some shims first and see what happens or if I need to I can turn the knuckles and redo the perches. I am planning on using a spring that gives about 1 1/2" lift over a stock YJ spring.

so you think springs aren't reversable or something?

I am also wondering the same thing. I want to extend my wheel base, but I am also doing a SRS

Seriously,

There are 77 fawking threads on Shackle Reverse (in Jeep Tech alone), and undoubtably a shitload more on lengthening a wheelbase.

Search.

Jesus

Unfortunately, you both are not making sense. Dwest has this figured out. From experience, you get 1-1.5" wb from the srs. The front mount becomes a solid mount, so the "waggy springs" dont change the wheelbase. Flipping them backwards wont make it better, it makes it worse. Sorry fellas.

I did see a toyota spring that I thought was even shorter on the short side than the waggy springs and good length on the long end. 2wd rears I think. Saw them on the front of suzukiw/theheat's yota. He had stock yj leafs in there with the toyota main leaf. It was tall tho, like 2-3" over flat yj spring height.

why not build more into the SRS?

I have thought of doing this, and I can since I will be fabbing all of the mounts for the SRS, will there be any problems with turning the springs around. I know the spring wrap at the front would be bigger which will make the mount hang down lower, but is that the only negative effect? I am trying to keep all axle movement within the spring.

go look at a jeepster rear spring, those are off set

That would be the best way to do it.

and look at Dakota rear springs

You can still use waggy springs and gain wheelbase that way in addition to the SRS...

I don't see how it doesn't make sense.. :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
