Newbie...checked-in...read rules...pressing on...... :flipoff2:

I know that this has been attacked by several here, and I read LOS_YJ's posts, but he has a 98 TJ motor...I have an 00 XJ's. There are some differences in them. I know, for openers, there is not a distributor on mine. It's some f'd up looking stem that goes to a "coil rail"... (not sure exactly what it's called, but I can find out) I just got the FSM for the engine.

My question: Will this thing bolt up and run?

My specs: 90YJ/AX15/NP231.
New engine: 00XJ, set up for auto, computer and harness

Should I just convert to auto, or get a manual computer/harness to run my AX15? That's even if the AX15 will work (dunno). I know the AX15 will bolt up, given the proper pilot, but I don't know if I really need to get a different computer.

Sorry about the long post...just getting pissed at this damned thing!

I did the swap with a 91 XJ motor and you can keep the auto computer for the 5 spd, but I had to ground out the "park" safety switch so I could start it. The FSM is one of the best purchases you could make. I am not sure if the newer style computers need to be swapped out. Your major challenge will be getting the correct fuel pressure to the intake. The newer engines require a higher PSI supplied by an in-tank regulator. The problem is neither a TJ of XJ pump/regulator/sender will work in a YJ tank. It is possible you could mate it together, but I have yet to see it done. The other option is to swap a pre-97 fuel rail on. You will also need to swap a YJ water pump, pulley and reverse rotation fan onto the front of your engine along with tyhe temp and oil sender. Getting your tach to work will also be a challenge because you don't have a dist. You have the diagrams, so you should be able to figure it out if it is possible. You also need to buy the speed sensor from Hesco that bolts into your t-case and allows you to retain the cable speedo. Don't forget that computer is OBDII complient so you need to but another O2 Sensor on the other side of the cat or get a kit to trick the computer. Well, that's what I can think of off the top of my head. Good luck and welcome Newbie :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :nuke: .

I forgot an auto swap does you no good because the TF999 is not computer controlled and the XJ tranny is so you will have the same problem with a YJ auto or 5 spd.

Leo, it will bolt up and run thats the easy part trust since I am doing it myself, the FSM will defenitly help, but you are probably going to have to get a new comp for the manual tranny... Getting the gauges to work thats the fucked up part its really hard dude.. Some stuff may just not work right its just one of those things got to keep at it till they work... As far as for fuel supply DE JEEPER is right but the only problem is you cant do a 97 pre fuel rail cause your fuel injector are different they are the new type Chrysler brought out the 98 or earlier run a round type fatter injector yours should be a real skinny type kind of like a pencil type injector thats a problem cause you wont be able to do a earlier fuel rail.. You may just have to use a 2000 tank out of a TJ or XJ or maybe run a external fuel pressure REG not sure if you can do the external, That new Distributer setup is a pain too... You can call HESCO with alot of questions they are very knowledgable they can defiently help you out but if you have any other questions email me maybe I can help you out since we are in the same headache good luck dude.... If all fails, fuck it get yourself a black hooker and some weed.....:smokin: :smokin: :smokin:

What do you think of this idea, yo?

1. Get a tank and pump out of a 00 XJ (want to do a Nasvik while I have the tank yanked). I'm the one who bitched until he made a write up on it. ;) That's a PHAT-ass mod!

2. Yank the dash from a 00 XJ (I was thinking of doing a dash swap anyway. I can use the guages from the XJ, and cut whatever I need from the metal of the dash "CJ-ish looking.").

3. Try the Auto computer...if all else fails, get the manual one.

4. Electric Fan, to avoid all the pully pullin'. Free up ponies, anyhoo.

My main concern is getting the summa-bits to start. If I can get it rollin', I guarantee I can get the guages to work. (Just optimistic like that, I guess).

LOS,

Sweet ride, bra! :rasta: Tight welds on dem perches, too.

It looks like you have a good handle on things. The gauges are not that bad. The bat. gauge will work with no mods. Swap the temp sending unit from a 4.2 into the new motor. It is on the head at the firewall on the drivers side. Replace the oil sender with a 4.2 l unit and that will now work. Get the speedo adaptor for the t-case and that now works. The only difficult thing is the tach. Worst case is you go aftermarket for that one. On mine I was able to hook into the negative coil wire that goes into the computer and it works fine. I bet Hesco has a fix. I would not do the XJ dash. That would get very complicated.

Just thinking (thanks DE, bTW)......

Any of you got a write up on this? I know words are priceless, but a picture says a thousand of them.

Unfortunately for you I did not document the install. I was to busy trying to get it on the trail. There is a write up of a 4.0l in a CJ on www.jeepland.net . If you ned a specific pic of something let me know. I think you will find it easier then you think if you take your time.
