I have a 95 z71, and wanted to know if I could swap to a 700r4, I know it will bolt up, I'm more concerned with the electrics of it, what would it take to get it done? what is the stronger tranny of the 2? as both are stock. and would it be worth the effert to do the swap?
thanks in advance

why would you swap the 4l60 for the 700??? They are the same thing, it's just that the 4l60 is computer controlled. I know the older 700's arent' as good as the 87 and up ones though....

I didn't relize that they were the same, but I know the 4l60 feels goofy compared to the 700 as far as how it shifts, but if their the same, then it's not worth it, thanks.

a 4l60 is a 700r4 period, a 4l60e is the electronic 700.

According to the research that I am doing and the 'jagsthatrun' website, the 4L60 in a 97 chevy is a 4L60E. The shift points are controlled by the ECM. CA smog laws do not allow for replacing an electronically controlled tranny with a 700r4. The shift points on the 700r4 are controlled by the internal fluid pressure, which is activated by the TVA cable position, based on throttle position. I am looking into swapping in a TBI engine into my 1975 Land Cruiser. I already have a 700r4 for it, but I can only use a TBI engine from a 1992 chevy or older which came with 700r4s, not the 4L60e. If this is not correct, please tell me so. I am just now getting into this swap and would welcome any corrective criticism.

now that would be a thread highjacking. Just take 1 month on the motor install, january 04 you will have a presmog l.c. and it is easier to do this swap with out the smog nazi knowing.

I think the 75 will not be smog exempt until Jan. of 05, not Jan 04? Is that correct?

no because 74 has been exempt since january 1st of this year 03. check dmv's website if you want. year you are in minus 29 is the exemption.

From DMV's web site:
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/smogfaq.htm
"How old does a vehicle have to be to qualify for a smog exemption?
Vehicles with a year model 30 years old or older are exempt from the smog certification requirements.
Example: The calendar year is 2003- 29 = 1974 exempt year model
The current calendar year minus 29 equals the year model exempt from smog certification."
Noodles is correct:cool:
2004 - 29 =1975 vehicles are smog exempt January 2004:p
