Ok,

I've got my 300 out of the Jeep. (The Jeep is currently a frame and shortblock. :D )

Anyway, the 300 won't shift for shit. Seems to be two positions, and that's it. (And I have to manhandle the shifter to get it into one or the other)

Any thoughts? How hard is it to take apart? Shifter binding problem maybe?

How would you go about fixing it?

TIA

first think id do is take the inspection plate off and see if all the gears look ok inside. after you determine thats ok then id pull the shifter linkage apart

It's pretty simple inside. Tear it open and see how it looks.

I have stock gears and stock tailshaft if you want to buy parts cheap...

Yeah, just take it apart. Its a lot simpler than you probably think. Really logical once you look at it (Ohhhh, THAT'S how it works!). Mine was always a pain in the arse to shift, when I put the new clutch in, i went thru it and replaced all the seals and stuff. The seals on the shift rails were shot and the rails were worn a bit where they rested on the seals. New seals, shined up the rods, and put on twin sticks at the same time. Whole new world. Piece of cake to shift now.

Just make sure you don't loose the steel balls that will come out when you pull the rails out of housing. Unless you have a spare set.:D :D

A manual helps also!
