Tundra Buggies!
Similar to what they run in Iceland as well as in Alaska during those GAY ASS polar bear expeditions.

Leave the bears alone and go play along the pipeline!

In Alaska, they build some pretty wicked school bus moster Tundra buggies as well!

Charlie??????

Any pics?????

Morgan -

Good thing I didn't ram my 80 like those 2 last Sunday - I would be moving to the Bay Area as a single and penniless man....

Explain that one to your wife....

The yellow thing is a "Lada Niva" I owned a couple new ones here in Canada in 95 and 96.
They come with 235/75R16's though - little different than that beast :D

I saw one of those in the parking lot of Jay Peak once. Looked under it, it looks pretty solid, like a miniature truck.

Lada Nivas are simple yet pretty rugged. The ones imported into Venezuela while I was still there suffered from poor quality control, but I hear that the newer ones are pretty reliable. They came with locking differentials, two jacks and enough tools to take the fawkers completely apart. Lookswise, they have a "Soviet-era, mid-1960's Fiat-copy" look to them that some find retro-cool.

I want to know what that mottled tractor is, it looks like a modified military prime mover! :)

Well it was uni-frame, IFS front, solid rear, and coils all around.
Ran a 1.6L (IIRC) with a fiat head, and GM fuel injection. Oh, and the spare tire (full size) mounted on TOP of the motor under the hood :D
That one there is 95 or later model (that changed the tail lights for that year).
Interior was rubber coated (kind of like rino-liner) from the factory.
Nice and light, went place like a sami does, it floated quite well too :D

And back in 95 I bought mine brand new with a sunroof, alloy wheels, running boards (thought those were a good thing back then ;) ) roof rack for CDN$9995 (about US$6500).

There is one from Canada of the Tour Bus Type.

They are all over the place and range in every shape and size. To build them one usually takes a 1 ton or better chassis. Pull off the body or at least the front.

They put on the biggest tires that they can afford, most are 3 to 4 feet wide and at least that tall.

They go just about anywhere in any type of conditions.

Lots of folks take wreched or used up 2 1/2 or 5 tons from the Army up here and retrofit them with tractor tires.

I went on a Caribou hunt in one and it was a blast. We just idled across the earth barely making a footprint and rolled over whatever obstacles were in our way. Carried anough stuff to outfit a platoon (there were 4 of us) and brought back 12 Caribou when it was all said and done.

Lots of fun, but not like driving a Jeep!

The rig right behind the rig with the boggers is a stock Lada Niva. So if you were wondering what the yellow beast looked like before the transformation... :D

LOCKING DIFFS?!?!?! WTF are you talking about???

Are you refering to the axle diffs or the diff in the t-case?? Yes, there´s a diff INSIDE the t-case, since the Niva is a full-time 4wd vehicle.

We got shitloads of Nivas running around here in Brasil and I even owned one for about 08 months. I´ve never heard of any Niva with locking axle diffs....

I´m really interested in this, cuz I´m getting sickof dragging these Ruskies out of mud holes...
