: 16X7 Aluminum rims - just a rant

Why's it so damn hard to find decent 16X7's? The selection SUCKS! Everyone makes 8" rims, but considering that most 16" tires are of the "pizza cutter" variety, you'd think there'd be a better selection of 7" rims. Eventually, I'd like to put some decent rims on my tow vehicle, but there just isn't much to choose from. Just a rant :crybaby2: I know. Just had to blow off some steam :D

i bought a set of dodge take offs, forged aluminun 16x7 with 265 michilens but the back spacing sucks. i bought them for a 98 dodge 2wd diesel and they wouldn't fit over the rear brakes. so i said fine i will use them on my 93 dodge 4x4 diesel. fit the back fine hit the tie rod on the front. just about gave up on using them. then i tried them on the wifes 3/4 ton sub fit great and looked pretty good to. and they used the same lug nuts as the dodge. but i got lucky and bought the whole set for 500.00 bucks with 300 miles on them. the tires alone cost more than that. i see a bunch of the ford take offs for pretty cheap. mike

Works good on my Dodge. Looks tons better than the gay-ass 16 x 6 1/2 stock chromies that sit 10" inside the fenders. Only drawback is they throw shit all over the body and I can't bring myself to put mudflaps on it. Geez I sound :rainbow: , I'll stop now.

Yeah, the factory (GM) aluminums are what I wanted. But, I had to choose between taking the truck that was available at the time of the good financing, or ordering it with ONE extra box checked & then paying more interest. I'm sure you can understand how the higher interest "wasn't an option" :)

i have seen a bunch of the chevy takeoffs in the 600 range with a short set of tires on them. thought about gettting a set to replace the dodge rims on the sub. they are a pretty good looking set rated to handle the weight of the 3/4 ton truck.

Yeah, I'm hoping to do better if I get the factory rims - since it was only a $150 option. $600 WITH the tires isn't TOO bad if they haven't been driven though.

Hey, would you give $500 plus shipping for something that was only a $150 option? :D:D

Yes, because I realize I can sell the old "new" ones for about $400.

Tex $500 is fine. Replacement Alloys for my '96 chev were around $250ea, refurbished, and or take offs $100ea. QUITYERBITCHIN and keep it the way it is. Tow rigs aren't supposed to look nice.:flipoff2:

Well, mainly I don't think he wants to get stuck with 'em. He offered $75 each for the standard tires & said I could run 'em up to ~2,000 miles or trade 'em in right now for the same $$$. Thought that was fair. Well, I did have one guy PM me on another board that said he might want my stock rims, so if they'll go for $300, I might have to do that when it comes time to get the tires.

Same bolt pattern as the older trucks (8 on 6.5"), but these are hub-centric. I would THINK you could run hub-centric rims on a non hub-centric truck, but who knows?

Yeah, you get reamed buying these from GM. Would have to expect that - replacement SHOCKS for my Z71 were $750 a set if I went to the dealer
