: rockwell questions?
Brian468 11-29-2003, 10:13 AM anybody ever use a set of deuce and a halfs on a daily driver? the gear ratio isn`t a problem, i`m just wondering about long range drivability. this will be the first set i`m using on a daily driver/ toy. i`d rather sell 60`s and parts and put some money in my pocket then keep breaking them and throwing money at a lost cause.
charlo 12-01-2003, 12:08 AM I think most trucks become weekend wheelers or trailer queens long before they find a need for rockwells. Just for kicks what are you breaking all this with?
Charlo
guardrail 12-01-2003, 09:36 AM yea i just got a set for my jeep and i want to be able to drive it to work and school from time to time. I hop it's streetable....cops probably won't like the full tube rear and the 52 Michelin's though. lol.
Brian468 12-01-2003, 04:37 PM boggers and a big block are what i prefer to break my parts with, i just want a rig i can drive around and take anywhere off road.
bansheeman1 12-01-2003, 06:05 PM WHEN YOU SET THEM UP SET THE PINION ANGEL DOWN
THE STOCK SPRING MOUNTS HAVE THIS ANGLE BUILT IN TO THEM
JUST USE THEM IF YOU USE SPRINGS ON THE FRONT END
I PLAN TO DRIVE MINE A LITTLE AROUND TOWN TO LOCAL EVENTS
I HAVE SEEN THEM SETUP IN THE PAST ON DAILY DRIVERS
52'S WILL EVEN OUT THE GEARS
K5Crawling 12-01-2003, 06:18 PM Who is selling these axles and how much for a set?
Brian468 12-01-2003, 08:47 PM i could get you a set but shipping would probably kill the deal, or i`ll take some good 48`s and a little cash.
SOFA-KING BIG 12-01-2003, 09:15 PM I'd expect the Rockwells will street very well. But, If you use pinion brakes you can expect premature pinion bearing failure.
Brian468 12-01-2003, 09:18 PM nah i`ve got a disc brake setup in the works.

im sure im not the only one that would love to have some more info on that when the time comes
BobWilliams 12-02-2003, 01:03 PM think of how long the military has been driving on those axles on the street and offroad plus they are always towing something or hauling troops and supplys and if you were in the military you would know how much abuse those things can handle.
Brian468 12-02-2003, 04:21 PM i was thinking more along the lines of sustained 70mph highway use, this truck will go cross country more the once and also how they`ll hold up to 4low romp`s.
SOFA-KING BIG 12-02-2003, 10:11 PM What size/type of tire are you going to use to do this?
Brian468 12-02-2003, 11:38 PM 48 michelins or 42 tsl`s with a reversed 203 in front of a 205.
BobWilliams 12-03-2003, 12:08 PM those axles will easily hold up to what you are doing with them. and they can easily hold that speed down the freeway, the question is does your rig have enough power to push that much extra weight down the freeway that fast?
Brian468 12-03-2003, 04:37 PM well if my 509 cant get those suckers moving i`m giving up on trucks and buying a civic with a whistle tip exhaust :flipoff2:
DriveTime 12-03-2003, 10:29 PM My rig is daily driven and it is on Rockwells and 48s.
K5Crawling 12-03-2003, 10:49 PM Drivetime can you post pics of your truck on rockwells please?
