: 36 and 38x12.50/15 TSLs.. Who run em, how tall are they really??
cbassett 12-18-2001, 02:24 PM All the research I've done says the bias TSL 38x12.50/15 actually measures right about 36".
I've heard the 36x12.50/15 measures more like 36.5". Anyone confirm this?
I'm leaning towards the SX 36.12.50/15. I just left 4Wheel Parts, and their SX measured 36.5".
Can someone who's recently bought bias TSL 38x12.50/15s and 36x12.50/15s, and 36x12.50/15 SXs, measure their actually diameter and post it??

Rubicrawler 12-18-2001, 02:38 PM I have a set of 36x12.5x15 SX's with very low miles. I'll measure them tonight and post the height for you.
Do you want just the mounted height or mounted with the vehicle weight on the tire?
Rubicrawler 12-18-2001, 02:40 PM Doh! I just re-read your post and it looks like you want TLS's and not SX's. I'll still post the info later anyway.
herzog 12-18-2001, 02:45 PM I'm running 36x12.5 on and 8" wide rim. Over all, I measured them with a tape measure at 36 1/4 inches unmounted. :)
edit: they are TSLs.
riffman 12-18-2001, 03:10 PM i got the same measure...on an 8" rim off the truck, its just a bit over 36" on the truck with 30 lbs its about 34.5". however, my truck had been sitting for a while, and since its a bias ply tire, it developed its flat spot. so i dont' know if that would be the warm height too.
cbassett 12-18-2001, 03:13 PM Thanks for the info guys. Yeah, please post the stats on the SXs too.
I'm really starting to sway towards the 36" SX. I'd planned on 38 TSLs, but I can't get a definitive answer on how tall they really are; if they really are 38" tall Id be screwed.
RHINO 12-18-2001, 03:33 PM i have 36-12.50-15 sx's on 7" rims. on the truck with 20 psi brand new i measured 35 1/2"
Skyetone 12-18-2001, 05:24 PM hows about the radial 36?
Skyetone 12-18-2001, 05:31 PM according to tyres international....
36-12.5-tsl 36.3-13.5-10.5tread
36-12.5-SX 35.9-13.2-10.3tread
36-12.5-radial 36.2-12.7-9.0
38-12.5-tsl 37.8-12.8-10
38.5-14.5-SX 38.3-15.4-12.3
36.-14.5 radial 35.6-15.1-11.5
38-15.5 radial 37.1-15.2-11.8
so.....
looks like the tls reg is the best 36 but then what does it wear like.
38 SX is way wide on a rim.
Hey i think i actually used my fourwheeler for something. :D
Who has the best price on a 36 radial?
Bones 12-18-2001, 05:49 PM I think the post is wanting ACTUAL height measurements Skyetone. And who the hell wants a radial swamper  :flipoff2:
Cbassett, check this (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17206) out. It was talking about the differances of the two. I was originally planning on going with 38's, but after that post I think I'm gonna get 36" SX's or TSL's since they are so close in ACTUAL measurments. I also can't decide if SX's are worth the extra $$ for the trails here in the Midwest. Either way I'll save a little money over 38's and it'll still be a great rig from what I had before.
SX's are worth it a bit heavier but worth it went from tsl's to sx's nite and day difference in ride and traction in routed muddy trails and they stuck to rocks real good too. I run the 36" sx's
Bones 12-18-2001, 06:41 PM Hey Pook, what do YOUR 36's measure and are they on a 8 or 0" wheel? Just curious is all. My 33" TSL's are HUGE compared to most other 33's and damn near what some 35's are, but from what I've read the bigger you go with swampers, the farther from the actual size you get. I could be wrong, but it's what I've read anyway.
bronco78 12-18-2001, 06:47 PM Brand new 36x12.50x15 TSL Bias on 15x8 Rockcrawler
Mounted / off the vehicle 36" tall
Mounted on 6100 pound vehicle at 29psi 35" tall
cbassett 12-18-2001, 11:46 PM Thanks for the link Bones. And yeah, I was looking for actual measured heights.
Due to some misfortune tonight, looks like I'm probably going to 36" TSLs too. A great tire, was just hoping to go a bit bigger.
IronBenderII 12-19-2001, 12:17 AM I have brand new unmounted 38.5" SX's unmounted on a 10" wheel and they measure between 37 and 37.5 depending on how many 's I've had.
bigdude 12-19-2001, 04:49 AM I have 36" SX's on an 8.5" rim with about 400 miles. Mounted on my YJ the stand a hair under 35.5" at 30 psi. They are an awesome tire. I wheel with a TJ on 38x12.5 TSL with an 8" rim and there isn't a big difference, maybe .5-.75".
I'd stick with what you're leaning towards and get the SX
RokHeep 12-19-2001, 08:30 AM I have 38x12.5x15's and mounted on 15x10"'s they are right at 36.5" tall. They are for sale also... :)

I measured mine last night. 36x12.5x15 SX's mounted on 15x10" wheels at 30 psi on my EB measured 34 7/8". They probably have about 2000 miles on them.
DippStick 12-19-2001, 01:43 PM Chris,
I looked into this a few months ago.
I've also seen both the 38x12.50 TSL/SX and the 38x14.50 TSL/SX mounted.
The 38x14.50 is a monster, I don't even know if I'd like to try and fit them on the TJ.
The 38x12.50 was damn near the same size as my 37x12.50 SSRs - i.e. about 36.2 or thereabouts.

BillaVista 12-19-2001, 05:20 PM Specs on my brand new 36x12.50 R15 TSL
Unmounted on the rims, they measured 34.75" Mounted on rims (8" wide) , but not on truck, they measured 35.5" inflated to 30 psi.
The "specs" listed on Interco's site are at "max inflation pressure" so they may well be 36" at 50 psi!!!
Charles Aarons 12-19-2001, 08:40 PM And who the hell wants a radial swamper
Who wants a radial Swamper? Lots of people. Especially if you have to drive on ice or if you want flotation due to sidewall bulge at pressures that don't require beadlock wheels (like 10-15 psi as opposed to 2-3 psi).
It might surprise you that BIG HEAVY offroad trucks like the Marines' 8X8 LAV and the HEMTT and just about every other tactical military vehicle in the world run radials. A lot of them have CTIS and the "sand" pressure is 10 psi. You can bet they'd have problems if they were trying to run 53" tires on HEMTTs at 2-3 psi trying to get a sidewall bulge carrying 10,000 gal of diesel on 8 tires.
If Michelin made tires in all the sizes Interco does they'd put Interco out of business. They never will of course. But they do make some.

cbassett 12-20-2001, 10:31 AM Well, due to having to buy a new carrier, the funds only allowed purchase of 36x12.50/15s. They measure about 35" unmounted; they've been lying flat for while, so no telling what they'll measure mounted. I'm wishing I had to $ to get the 38x12.50s now. Always next year I guess...... hey wait that's only 11 days away!;) yeah right.
