Ive never really read anything on all the LC lists regarding subframe connectors or other chassis stiffening ideas or homebrew fabrication on the topic- is anyone out there doing this to older pigs?

Hey Turtle........I saw some of your questions over on the Clifford site. I love 292s and I see that yours is supercharged??
Gotta love it.
Tell us what your setup is.. tranny, t-case,
etc.
Hey what does it take to bolt up a 292 to a fj40 4 speed tranny?.... and what motor mounts idid youuse?

I'm no expert, but the 55 frame seems stiff/strong enough. When Butch Lewis built me a front bumper, he boxed and extended the frame horns, mostly so I could clear an 8274 winch.

Yeah, tell us more about that 292!

55's are welded box as opposed to the 40's riveted box. the box extends further down the frame rails and unlke 40's and 45's the box is solid (no port holes). If your 55 frame has to much twist to it, check it out real good, it may be cracked. On my 55 I cam pick up one wheel with my fork lift about 4 feet of the ground and all my doors still open and shut just fine. Is your top cut off? I could see that letting the frame twist a bit.

I Say, if you want to stiffen it up more, build a fat cage and tie it into the frame.

Thanks for the info. My 55 was pretty well pampered and doesnt rattle too much. Which is why i was askin about subframe stuff to keep it from turning into a rattle box.

The 292 is in pieces right now- im planning on doing a fair bit of mountain trips and dont see that thing breathing at 7000ft too well so im planning a twin screw with a 16.5"drive to reach from the center of the intake to the front belt. My ebayer dewd turned out to be a charletan so i may switch to an EAton and try to do a blow thru with that one.

I was thinking of speaking to Butch Lewis about the subframe stuff to see if he has done anything with the 55 be4. I hear hes a good guy and does great work.

Bennett,

My 292 was done by the prev. owner and its mounted to a stock 3spd Toyota tranny and case. I just picked it up and havent had time to do much other than troubleshoot the vehicle.

I called the clifford guys(not the website guys) and this older guy gave me the lowdown on the 292. He said i can gain 35%hp with a cam alone(he also said that they grind a stock cam for 95$ versus the pricey cams that the website sells) . More with shorty headers and if i zero deck it he said 400lbs of torque is no problem without the supercharger.

Oh- its an FJ55 not 40 ala 1971 for california smog avoidance.
