Your buddy is going to bite off more than he can chew...

You cannot effectively run 44s, with 12 inches of lift, and actually expect to put it into 4WD ever. If he wants a show truck, then have at it, but if he really wants to do the dunes and stuff, he really should consider 35s, normal axles, 4 inch lift.

You should know better than to ask a question like this.

I was actually just sorta curious myself. After lookin at his burb I sorta like it and I'm thinkin about gettin one myself. I saw one around here with one of those 12" kits and it looked good. I think the guy was running 38's.

I admit I'm a newb, so I don't know better :(

Well, what do you want, a truck that looks good or a truck that can gove over a curb? Those giant lifts have no flex, make the body incredibly top heavy, and cost a fortune once you include all of the stuff yto make it work. Even then, they are often unsafe (hard to properly do steering that high), and are illegal in many places.

A mild lift and sawzall make for a much safer rig. If you want to go with a tall lift kit, go ahead. If you want a show truck that is. Do it a little different, grab a sawzall and off road racing catalogue for fiberglass fenders and such and cram larger tires on it with less lift. A lower center of gravity will make it much easier to drive on the street.

Get a nice set if 12" lift blocks and call it good :flipoff2: . Sorry, 12" lift is way goofy, I would go 6" at the max, more like 4" and trim the shit out of it.

I had 4" lift and trimming to fit 37's, worked well. If you want 44's go 6-8" lift but make sure you go to a true crossover steering setup with a taller lift.
