I hate these stock IH carbs. I just rebuilt my 304, and the carb, but I cant get the pos carb to work right. Anyway, I have had good luck with Edelbrock 750's, I just ordered a 2 to a 4 barrel convertor, I know this is too much carb for a 304 right? Anyone using this setup?

I have a shiney Edelbrock 600 on my Scout...even with the off-road kit...it SUX. It does not like sidehills. I already have line on a rebuilt q-jet.

If you block off the vent between the float bowl's it will work better on the side hill. You may want to jet it down to a smaller main jet also.

Hey Scoutillac....I am carb-stupid....How would I block off the vent? Is it easy to see/get to?

There is a passage at the back of the carb that connects the float bowl's. Just remove the top of the carb and it will be obvious where it is, then just block it off.....clear as mudd?

Sounds simple enough. I will check it out. Thx

OK Scoutilliac,

After a failed attempt at using a q-jet, I pulled the top off of my edelbrock and saw the passage that I think you were referring to. I use a small section of fuel hose and blocked it off (It was pinched together so that fuel can't run through it;) )...then , I had to go to a BBQ last night...was talking with Rockslut and he asked me how the fuel gets to the drivers side bowl...I don't remember if this was the only way or not...is there some other way that the fuel fills the driver side bowl? Did I plug the wrong passage?...it starts fine now..but I haven't driven it yet...

What ya mean upside down? It is designed to go from a 2 barrell manifold to a 4 barrel carb... Only goes on one way, Works fine...
Overcarbed though Im sure, anyway I switched to a 600 cfm since this post, I needed the 750 for the 400 in my Firebird...

That passage is just a vent. In the top plate there is a passage that will allow the fuel to fill the other bowl, trust me it works, ran it that way for a # of years. I even figured how to make the afb's run upside down..

It does suck, I really hate the way it will run when it is upside down:flipoff2:

Y'know, just because you CAN run upside down, doesn't mean you're really supposed to prove that, silly!

No wonder you flopped it.. just to make sure the ProJection works as advertised..

Thanks for double checking for me, Kevin.. I'll take your work for it and keep mine dented, dirty, ugly side up.. :D

... and leave the POS Projection in the corner of the shop where I threw it 2 years ago...
