: Looking to Buy FJ55

I am a wanna-be land cruiser newbie. I am looking at a '73 FJ55 but don't know much about them. I have a '81 truck that's built but want a 55 cause they're way cool. I would be somewhat restoring this vehicle as a daily driver/weekend getaway vehicle.

I would be buying this vehicle through pictures only, which I do have but I'm not sure I'm able to post here. I will email them if someone wants to do the posting.

Some general info:

1973 FJ55
127,000 original miles (I think)
red/white
body straight
some rust
tires bad
interior completely shot
back window motor blown
has been towed behind an RV with tow bar (is this bad for the trans/t-case?)

Thanks

1973 FJ55 - Not the best year, but OK. Get rid of the drum brakes! Get a 4 speed tranny.

127,000 original miles (I think) Not bad considering the age

red/white - Good Scheme

body straight - Big plus!

some rust - they all have rust somewhere, but if it is repairable, your good.

tires bad - repairable

interior completely shot - repairable

back window motor blown - repairable

has been towed behind an RV with tow bar (is this bad for the trans/t-case?) - All depends on how they towed it? In neutral, or disconnect the drive lines?

I am assuming they towed it in neutral, hubs unlocked, but with drivelines attached.

Is $500-$1000 a reasonable price range?

I bought my 55 sight unseen. I have vowed to never buy another rig sight unseen. If you can find someone in the area who can check it out and take a camera I would suggest that.

What Ken said. I'd get someone to check it out for you, where is it?

$500-$1000 for a running driveable cruiser is hard to beat.

I would get it. I've always wanted a 55 but everyone wants a lot of money for them.

no problem about the pics.

Even if you don't build it, the body parts are worth $1000.
I didn't see any rust around the roof........that is good.
The rust on the front fenders is typical.

Ask for more pics.
Tailgate
interior
engine compartment

Just from what I have seen, it is worth $1000, if not more.

So, exactly in Montana is it :p
