Has anyone welded up there gov loc rear diff in there 14bolt? I was curious since I have 2 of them and 0 open carriers.

Go for it. I just left everything in it and welded the HELL out of it. I pretty much filled in each side with weld and then had to do a bit of grinding to get the two halves back together. It'll never break. That's for sure ;)

Well I just welded my gov loc and it was easy. With the carrier on the bench, It took about 30 minutes. I just took it open and cleaned everything. Then I started by tack welding the spider gears to the shafts there on out of the way of the carrier. I was trying to avoid welding any where the housing of the gov loc would interfer. I then welded the side gears to the spider gears at every joining spot. I then set the other side side gear on and welded it to the spiders test fitting the carrier sides constantly. The only trouble was spatter in the splines and that popped off with the chipping hammer.I could bolt it all together and weld the side gears to the carrier in the little windows but I think its unneccesary since the 4 spider shafts would have to break in order for the welding to fail.

Sorry, nope. I just welded the hell out of it. It would look like two solid pieces of metal bolted together. Pretty simple actually.

I did it today and it seems to have turned out pretty sweet. I just pulled all of the clutches out and welded the spiders together. Then i put pieces of 1/4 steel in the open spots between the gears. It now kinda looks like a detroit but solid. Took me about an hour and i don't think that it will ever break.
