Has anyone ever run a dana 70 front axle? Are they better or worse than running a dana 60?Also im wondering about the 2 1/2 ton axles ,are these things resonable to use in real world situations?

D70 Fronts are closed knuckle (bad) and (IIRC) many models are generally considered weaker than D60s due to low spline axles. In general, undesirable compared to most front D60s, but if cheap enough, maybe a good upgrade in some cases.

2.5s in the "real world"? What's "real world"? Daily driver? If so, I guess it depends on whether you can deal with the 6.?? or deeper gears.

Just take a 60 and put 35 spline outer on it. If you are running 42's or smaller it will be there for you. D70 suck.

Closed knuckle 70 fronts are not as desirable as a king pin open knuckle 60 front. The knuckles are weaker and they have drum brakes unless someone converted it to disc.If you come across an open knuckle 70 front with king pins then it is equally as desirable as 60 king pin front particulary if it is entirely complete because it will have 35 spline outers with 35 spline drive flanges and it will be disc brakeThe rotors, calipers, bearing hub, outer stubs and 35 spline drive flanges on my truck all came off of a king pin disc brake 70 front..In the end all of it is the same as a 60 front OEM ,except the stub..The only thing is 70 open knuckle fronts are as rare 100 dollar king pin 60 fronts. Basically, if it is a closed knuckle 70 stay away from it. Hope this helps.

Dana 70's are great as long as you get the kingpin style. Yes they do exist. There is not only one style of front 70. They closed knuckle ones are weak but the others are good. The real question is do you really need the bigger ring gear, since that's essentially the only thing stronger than a "built" 60 front.
Oh welcome newbys!:flipoff2:
