im sooooo sik of fawkin w/ me carb on the 2f! <IMG SRC="smilies/flipoff.gif" border="0"> . i rebuilt it like a few months ago...3 maybe, and now i cant start it worht a damn. it just cranks and cranks. the float leveell id fone, jeff checked it. im gonna tear it down tomorow, but what else can i do? jeff said there is an adapter to fit a motorcraft on there. those are so easy to mess with. and he said it gains power too. i dont wanna call him this late lol so i posted. thanks! peace

Won't start hot or won't start cold? How is the performance when it runs? Is your ballast resistor bypass wire from the starter to the distributor connected? The stock carb is pretty hard to beat off road.

it wont start period. once its goin its ok. it did start okay after it was warm. the wires are all conected. im stumped.

Make sure you have a good spark first: It should jump across at least 1/4 inch with a snap.
Is your choke closing all the way? Does the accelerator pump squirt gas into the carb when you mash the pedal. Try adding a tea spoon of gas into the carb and if it starts right up, you aren't getting enough fuel. Maybe pump twice?
It's worth keeping the Aisan as I think you will be disappointed in the Motorcraft (Holley?) off road.

Check the filters and the pump too. Disconnect the fuel line near the carb and crank it and make sure fuel is getting to the carb. I wouldn't look at a Holley, the only aftermarket carb worth considering is a Weber. The stock carb really can't be beat though. I have an extra Weber or two, you're welcome to borrow it and buy it if you like it.

The stock carb is really a nice unit, but...
I LOVE my 38/38 Weber.
It is simple and will run at extreme angles with the pressure regulator at 3PSI.
Way more power than stock... ;-)
The Weber pretty much needs a header to work well...

The plate needed for the Motorcraft is an adapter plate for a Holley 2bbl (same bolt pattern).

I've also had really good luck with a Weber 38mm, but the gas milage sucked!

well i fuked with the float for hours! i took it off, adjusted the float, and put it back on literally ten times be4 it worked! it either didnt get enough fule, or overflowed out of the jets. what a bitch! its finally runnin cool. i hope... <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">. whats the deal with the webbers? price, any other mods to make it work? i allready have a header. bring it awn!

Float adjustment isn't likely to have anything to do with starting problems as you are just using the fuel that is already in the bowl to start it. As long as the fuel level is in the middle of the window when the engine is running the float and inlet check valve are doing their thing. Check the fuel level before you start it after it has sat overnight. If you don't see any fuel, the carb is siphoning fuel into the intake. This will make it hard to start when it is cold as you have to wait for the pump to deliver more fuel and hard to start when hot as it will be flooded. This is usually caused by the little vent holes for the fuel jets in the top cover being clogged. They are tiny, so people often don't notice them and forget to blow them out. They will get plugged if you use RTV sealer on the top cover.
