I took this picture this a while back. The axle was under a really big military 6x6 with a crane on the deck. I was wondering if this is a 2.5 ton axle than I hear so much about or if its something bigger than that?

I could tell better with a picture of the whole truck but if it had a crane on it I would suspect that it was a 5 ton.

Pretty sure it's a 5 ton. We have some of those 6x6's at work so I'll see if I can find out for sure.

Yep, it's a 5 ton. The wreckers were all 5 ton units (at least the ones that we had.)

I am looking for a rear axle to use under my Samuri, do you think that this would be overkill?

Just to chime in here the rear end in question I'm pretty sure is a rockwell 4640 ran a lot of them in private road log trucks with a five speed main box and a four speed browny the trucks would top out at around thirty miles an hour talk about low geared all these double reduction rear ends have a lube problem though and don't like extended high speed the upper bearings are prone to fail and they would brake axles on a semi regular basis they also made another one called the SQDD thats a little bigger than the 2 1/2 ton :smokin:
