: Wiper motor wiring question for a '71 55

This question goes out to "all" the 55 owners, particularly those with a 1971, as I think wiper motors changed post?'71?.

Anyway, I was hoping for another typical California winter so I wouldn't have to wire my wiper motor. No such luck! If anyone can help me with the SWITCH to MOTOR harness I would appreciate it. "YES" I do have a manual but it's not helping.

According to the manual a stock harness should look like this; light purple (L), light purple w/white strip (LW) and light purple w/black strip (LB) running from the wiper motor (4 prong plug) to the switch (6 prong plug). My harness is gone (I do have plugs though) and I don't know where the wires terminate on the motor. The schematic clearly shows each wire from the switch but then labels the terminus as pins 1, 2 and 3 with pin 4 being the ground. This doesn't help because I don't know where pin 1 should be (I would assume upper left) and if the following pins would rotate clockwise or counter clockwise.

I think the easiest thing would be for someone with a 55 to look at their harness and describe what they see, where the solid purple wire (if in fact that is the right color) plugs in and so forth. Please start at the upper left corner of the motor plug (4 prong) and move clock wise.

Thanks in advance for taking the time.

Justin

ps.

I know this is a pretty long winded post for a rookie but its hard as hell driving in the rain without wipers, rainex is only so good.

Welcome to the board!
I'm finishing up with finals, and I'll be home (where my project pig is) by friday. My wipers are all wired up and working, so my wiring is good (I would hope)- but I'll check it out and snap a pic or two. That is, if you can wait that long and your question hasn't been thoroughly answered already. Someone else will probably say something- but if not, there will be something for sure this weekend.

Good luck, and Pig out- :fj:

ok I Dont know any thing about the 55

But I did wire a 40 and found out the following
which may or may not apply.

the off position on the switch actualy sends
power to the moter the moter rotates untell
the blades reach the park position.

but if ther is not enugh drag on the moter
it will coast past the stop position and keep
going.

ther is a screw on the moter to adjust the
drag.

GOOD LUCK..

Zipp,

Pictures would be great. Thanks for the help.

If anyone else can take a look and offer inputs I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Justin

Landcrusher has it right. There should be a "Park" wire, a Low wire, a High wire and a ground.

Toyota usually used a black with white stripe wire for the ground. If you start from there and then just apply +12V to the other terminals, you should be able to tell whats what without frying anything.
