: I need some dual t-case pics

I was reading one of these threads that mentioned a dual t-case setup with one case reversed to provide a 2:1 overdrive or a 2:1 underdrive. does anyone have pics or details on how to do this?

:mad3: You should be using the "search" function!! :flipoff2:

I dunno why I am doing this, but try ORD DOUBLER (www.offroaddesign.com)

BUT FIRST ... go read "The Rules" and "Newbies Introduce Yourselves". They are labled "STICKY:" ... IF you don't you are gonna get flamed to :skull: for be a fawkin Newbie JU reject! So get to it!!!:mad2:

ummmmmm......yeah...do a search for dual t-case and see what all comes up. :flipoff2:

thanks for the usefull info on building this setup though. :flipoff2:

oh yeah did I mention :flipoff2: or :flipoff2:

the key word here...I dunno if ya'all missed it was REVERSE.
I used the search and sorted through a ton of bs about running a straight dual case setup to increase crawl ratio...I want to increase my overdrive by REVERSING one of the cases.
I know it has been done but don't have time to sort through pages of different posts that have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with my question but contain dual t-case options.

I AM NOT WANTING TO INCREASE CRAWL RATIO!!!!!
I AM WANTING TO ADD AN OVERDRIVE BY DOUBLING T-CASES WITH ONE REVERSED!!!!!

do I have to say it one more time?

oh yeah, tigger.....check member number.......just because you've been padding your post # in general chit chat doesn't mean that I'm new here. and btw... :flipoff2:

i suppose if you installed a reduction gear box (like the low range section of a NP203) backwards it would "double" the gear your transmission is in, creating an overdrive.

i've never seen this myself, and thinking about how gears are cut.....they are made to tranfer torque in the drive direction, reversing this might make it weaker.

Assuming you did this with a 2:1 transfercase, that would give you 50% overdrive. That's a lot of overdrive. What gears do you have in your axles? If it's anything less than about 6.00 your OD gear is going to be worthless. Also, I would think it would be loud as hell since most tcases have straight cut low range gears. I saw an arrangement like that in a magazine once. The guy had a total of three tcases, two D20s (one mounted in reverse) and a D18. He also had something like 6.29 gears. It was a rock buggy so I have no idea why he needed highway gears in the first place.

my plans are to transplant a Jeep m-715 body onto a J-20 frame, chevy 350, 383, or 400 (whatever is available for a good price) , custom coiled front and shackle flipped rear with chevy lift springs, either nv4500 (if I can get one for a good price) or sm465, most likely a dana 203, and rockwell 2.5 ton axles.

the rockwells have 6.72 if I remember right.....

and I need to travel on the highway. not everyday, but it still needs to be capable to.

I am just looking at my options to add an overdrive and I thought I had heard this mentioned........

That makes more sense then. What size tires are you going to run? If they're big enough you might find that the OD in the NV4500 will get it done for you. Otherwise an AA Ranger OD might be an option for you as well. I don't mean to rain on your parade, but a 50% OD just doesn't sound very usefull.

well since your gonna have some room, (and your gears are mighty low)

:smokin: how about a 2wd NV4500 and a divorce mounted NP205 running backwards? no adapters needed :D

could be wrong but I think airzuki (OTT) is the man to talk to on this.
someone local up here did, or is doing this for mog portals

I am sick of the 'newbie' crap, I dont see a reason anyone would want to venture to 'chit chat' to check in, nothing worthwhile ever comes from that forum other then it is supposed to cut the chit from falling here

the dual NV's could work....but I am building this on somewhat of a budget and they are hard enough to find used/junkyard, let alone find 2 of em for a good price...that is why I was thinking about the sm465...you can pick one of them up, brand new on rebuild for only $150.

Yes (We) at OTT industries did make a 2:1 overdrive for a customer here in B.C......He's running unimog axles ( 6 something to one ratio) and needs to be able to drive on the highway..... I consider this to be in the prototype stage , yes there is more gear whine, yes you are running the driveshafts at a higher RPM ( so balance is critical ).....

do you provide the complete assembly, was it a one-off adapter, or can you explain to me axactly how you set it up and what possible costs are. Like I said...I want to run a 35, sm465, and 203 or 205 with rockwell 2.5's but I need an overdrive.

please e-mail me at mklotz@msn.com so I can talk to you further.

thank you
Mike
