: For you TJ lovers
RoCkSkuLLz 12-19-2001, 03:37 PM In the new FOUR WHEELER magazine they show the new TJ thats going to be coming out in 2003. Comes with Dana 44's front and rear, air lockers, 31" MRT's, diamond rocker panels, new NVG2401R Transfercase with 4.1 low range, and a total crawl ratio of 65.92 to 1. four wheel disc. Its called the "Rubicon" model.
Can ya' order it with factory sawzall options ? Maybe pre-bent tierod ? What about tire options,,, can we get boggers with factory sidewall gash's ? Do you have to get paint on it, or can we order the camo base only ? Come awn DC, don't tease us with a Rubicon model if we can't have everything we need :)
Welby 12-19-2001, 04:23 PM Yours for the low, low price of $31,429....
You know they're gonna waaaaayyyyyy overcharge for that thing.

That would actually be a decent price, considering many TJ owners pay @ $20K for their "used" TJ, a front 44 would run about $3-4K installed, regear the rear and lock it for another $1-2K, gear the T-Case, etc for another coupla thousand and you're up to $30K +. Don't beleive me? Ask Paul and a few other TJ owners how much they have in their Jeeps......you might find yourself surprised.

Yeah - you'll be surprised when I don't tell you. :flipoff2::D
I'm doubtful we'll see this Jeep on the market, and if we do I think it's stupid. How many TJ owners really need this? How many would even recognize the benefits? Almost none, and they're all on JU.
Paul
Rock Toy 12-19-2001, 05:19 PM Quick on the draw, Paul.
mfg4rox 12-19-2001, 05:20 PM Now it just needs to come with a welder, on board air, roll cage, ect....No, but I think it cool that jeep recognizes that there was a need to get rid of the ol 35 out back and beef up some of the things we have been doing for years. Jeep is probably the only company I have seen which actually addresses issues like these. Most companies see it as your own problem...if you don't like, then don't lift it kinda concepts.
Steve Sommer 12-19-2001, 05:43 PM I haven't seen the magazine but I actually like the idea and would probably buy my wife one. She has a CJ-5 now and I have a 7. A TJ equipped like that would drive better than her 5 and we could flat tow it behind the motor home when we go to the coast, Moab, and some of the easier stuff we do. That would still leave us my 7 for the tough stuff. I say bring em!

Yeah good ol Jeep, always thinking of us. Thats why they have been installing that stupid slip yoke in the rear of the NP231 for only 14 years now. Hell it would have probably cost them about $15 each to swap them at the factory. And they sure have been quick to install locking hubs on the front axles like any 4x4 should have. Yup they are sure their for their avid off road customers.
I wouldnt hold your breath before that thing hits the market. DC often forgets to follow through with the hype they feed the rags, for your reading pleasure.
RockyXJ 12-19-2001, 07:09 PM I'm going to hate seeing all the yuppies that buy that jeep cause they have the money too and then not even know what they can do with it. I think the majority of the buyers will be people with money that think that they should have the vehicle cause its above $30 grand. Its kind of like all the people with SUV's and when they need to use 4x4, they have no clue what that weird shaped lever is therefor. I think its an awesome idea, and a good starting point, or for someone you doesn't want a hardcore rig, but a very capable rig, i'm just going to be pissed when i see yuppie scared to hit some gravel cause he doesn't want to get his jeep dirty.
Cheers

xBabyJesus 12-19-2001, 07:30 PM More yuppies buying them = more beefy jeeps in the "used" bracket 10 years from now. I say, shit, it's a step in the right direction, why beat on DC?

Paul yeahh, or........ they may be total yuppies and think theyre getting something impressive..... yuppies will buy that shit up like mad.......
nasvik 12-19-2001, 08:25 PM If 'yuppies' are going to buy it because it's impressive (and pay the assumed premium), DC better get off their behind and work on the fit and finish of the TJ. Leaky, drafty, noisy, creaky - basically obnoxious to drive. The TJ is a great platform to build on, but I wouldn't want one for $25-30k just to drive around in - there's a lot of other vehicles that perform better, are quieter, dryer and get better mileage in the same 'yuppie' category.
I still say it won't hit the market.

Yep now thats the way to think.. More Dana 44's for the front..
Scrap yards will be filled with These new TJ's cause some good ball is going to lock it up on pavement with light snow, and crash into a tree. :D
We should have an endless supply of parts to pick and pull..
Rear disc's.. control arm mounts, T case's..
I like it.. I say sell a bunch and let them yuppies crash them puppys so we can get the parts cheep. :skull: :skull:
LOS-YJ 12-19-2001, 09:49 PM If it came with a Little mexican boy in the back seat and some weed I'd buy it for sure......:rasta: :rasta: :rasta:
AGGIECJ-7 12-19-2001, 10:06 PM if i was gonna buy a new jeep and build it up so i could do what i do now or how i would like it built, the "Rubicon" edition wouldnt be worth a damn. dana44's - whoop-d-doo....31's - they can bearly hop a damn curb....rockerpanels - those will be gone after the sawzall gets to em.
hell if i was gonna buy a new jeep to offroad it would be the cheapest one i could get. then new axles, motor, tranny, & t-case.
i think for the most part the only real useful things on a jeep from the factory is the tub and frame. i find myself replacing more and more of the jeep everyday

Hey! I know a few people like this! I think the TJ
"rubicon" is a waste. Id rather build it myself.

Belly,
You should make that your new sig.. That's fawkin'funny
Doc Savage 12-20-2001, 07:54 AM I doubt we will ever see this one. And I agree, if we do it will cost you through the nose.
And by the way, I have less than 19K total in my TJ after the mods, and I factory ordered it. Well the Employee Discount helped alot, as well as the fact that I've got a buddy who keeps putting stuff on his TJ then deciding to go bigger and selling me his stuff for next to nothing (heck I got his Tera 3" lift for $150 :) ).
Robert
Sundowner 12-20-2001, 09:14 AM so who's gonna shell out $30k for a Jeep to thrash on the rocks?
sounds like painting you house in a shirt and tie.
the whole idea sounds useless to me.
case in point:
the Tacoma TuRD's
I bought mine because of the locker and bilstiens.
go over to TTORA, and most of those guys bought the truck for the pretty fender flares. Most people dont know what the hell that pretty little button on the dash does...
Tony Capino 12-20-2001, 09:22 AM Havent they said this before? I remember back in 97 they mentioned it. I think I remember seeing stickers for it, but nothing came about. It would be cool, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Rock Toy 12-20-2001, 09:38 AM I think all your talk is valid but people WILL still buy it (if it ever comes on the market) and it WILL be very capable. Hell, the only thing it'll be missing is a lift and tires and you have a GREAT Rubicon family rig. Not EVERYBODY wants a roll-me-over and crash in to Granite Jeep. . . and BTW, Dana 44's front and rear are more than good enough. Nasvik GETS IT in his TJ with Air Locked 44's with a 4:1 geared T-Case. Major difference mechanically between his and the "Rubicon" is a bolt-on lift and 38" tires. Of course, Paul's TJ has a ton of other goodies that make it a kick-ass rig.....but ulimately, its the same.
Flatty 12-20-2001, 09:56 AM I agree with both sides here. I say people WILL buy these, and they will get beat on by some of these same people. On the other hand, there will be a bunch of Yuppies that buy this just beause they want to own a Jeep. Now let me ask all you Jeep owners a question:
How many of you swapped in a Dana 44 front instead of a 60?
How many of you swapped in a 4:1 gearset into your t-cases?
How many of you wheeled a semi stock rig?
How many of you "bolted" on a new lift kit
How many of you added tires?
I am gonna say 3/4 of the peope on the board talk the talk, but don't wank the walk. Great, so you bolted on a 4" lift kit and got some 33's on your rig. That doesn't make you any more hardcore than some people I know with 31's. I know some people with 31's that will spank the big boys. Now I could be wrong, but I have yet to see some "Hardcore" shiat for many of you. That is the great thing about the internet, you can come here and talk all this stuff up, but no one knows if you are saying the truth.
Oh and yea, I have built some Jeeps, cruisers, and toyota pickups, and just to show that I am not talking out of my ass, here is a pic of my latest truck that I just sold.

BTW, I say if this does come out, that we will see many people on this board as well as other boards buying them because they are comfortable CAPABLE wheelers.

I agree with you (although it has to be less than 3/4 I hope). Some of the fellas I know that are on this list are full of shit. Like my father in law says "some have big hats but no cattle".
WheelingPiazza 12-20-2001, 10:18 AM You know I heard about this jeep a couple of weeks ago.. The only thing that popped into my head was Now the rubicon is going be even more crowded with yuppies that dont know how to drive and thinking there poop dont stink..
Not to mention rasie our insurance rates for the people that own jeeps because you know some Jackass is going to take his jeep out and think it can do anything because he has teh rubicon model and roll it.. The more that end up in the yards the more our preimums will go up...
H8monday 12-20-2001, 10:42 AM I use my Jeep Too Dimitri. But I went at number 1 a little different. I just mashed the pedal, until the spectators thought I was gonna climb on top of em, then cranked the wheel and mashed the pedal again, untill it straightened out on the other side. I just thought as long as we were posting pics, I would get a few in:D

Course number 7 was fun too

Im sorry what were we talking about?, this was a CalRocs post wasnt it?:flipoff2:
Flatty 12-20-2001, 10:52 AM Hit #1 with some AUTHORITY!!! I went up the wall, the spectators thought I was gonne drive over them, then the front end slipped, and off I went. I thought I had it, so I floored it, that pushed me over onto my side. It was all in fun. I had a great time being the first person to run #7. I hit every cone out there (being waide has its fauts), but Imade it out up the wall under time. It was a great rush staring at the sky with the pedal to the floor. My bro had to jump out of the way. He thought I wouldn't make it up it, but was in awe when the Flatty cralwed up there with a lot of GO JUICE!!!!
Dimitri
Rock Toy 12-20-2001, 11:34 AM Yep, Dimi hit the same line you did...only earlier in the day. Reason he flooped it was 'cause his rear pass. tire drooped under the truck and when he was supposed to pivot on it, it wasn't there  whoops!
Here' one of my favorite pics:

CannonBall 12-21-2001, 11:30 PM All I thought when I heard that was "Sweet a lot of people are gonna buy them, crash them and have spare front 44's that will bolt up to my jeep!! hell yeah!" That's how I see it anyhow!
-Nate
High5 12-22-2001, 03:13 AM not that i would do it but if i were gonna go the tj route i'd start with either a stripped down new one or a low milage one. for what they want for the rubicon you could buy the stripped version, slap on a lift that will clear some real meats, throw a set of dana60's under it and still may have enough for an atlas. just my op. :D
coachgeo 12-22-2001, 05:46 PM yeah but if they do put it out then maybe u can get a stripped model TJ with the rear "and front" D44 option for building on.
Thats what I did when I got my rear 44...
