Ok I can get a D-44 8 lug (free) with the pumpkin on the driver side(ford). I need it on the passenger side (IH) so what I was thinking is dissemble it and grind out the welds the hold the axel tube to the pumpkin. Once that is done rotate the pumpkin 180" degrees (so it would be pointing away the x-fercase) now weld it up and rotate the who axel 180'. So now the pinion is pointing at the x-fercase but on the passenger side. assemble the knuckles and stuff and install it. Would this work or will it be driving backward.

Or do I half to swap around axel tubes

The bute with this axel is that it’s open knuckle and disk brakes

thanks

WHY:confused: I could understand wanting a HP but why don't you just take the knuckles/guts out of this axle and order you a HP housing and put your guts/knuckles in it. You could sell that housing bare quickly.....hell i'll buy it!!!:p

It s the same as just flipping it upside down, it'll run backward. Not to mention, you would lose the advantage of the high pinion diff.

Pull the tubes and and swap them, but keep the diff position the same.

Chief, get your self a GM D44 housing and go to town. All the ford outer stuff will swap over, and you get the pumpkin on the side you want.

Unless your after the HP, but not sure why you would be with a PU.

Hell, *I'll* trade you a chev D44 housing and the shafts (you will need them), for your ford housing and shafts.... if shipping weren't $$

well, maybe shipping it wouldn't be *too* bad........

Doing all the cut and swaping (and you still need shafts) is alot of work unless you need/want the HP.

you could keep the 8-lug (not that I wouldn't mind the stuff for my t-lette :D), just the housing and inner shafts for a Chevy D44 housing and inner shafts. The ford outer stuff *should* all swap over (please, someone correct me if I'm wrong!!).

What is this axle out of?? Does it have the radius arm mounts?? Or is it bare tubes. Got pic?

Seems to me what you describe will work although it's way more labor then most people would do. Just make sure the castor angle is right when you put the tubes back on. You will need to swap knuckles around to the corect side to get the steering arms in front again. That goes for brake hardware also.
Now that I think about it I don't think the brakes will swap like that due to the stud pattern. That could be the thing that stops the whole idea. I'm not sure.
Not sure if you can grind out the rosete welds or not. Most people drill them out or cut them out with a torch. I've never tried it but it's a major PITA from what I have heard.
It would be way easier to get the GM housing.
Good luck.:)

I just realized that this part of my earlier post is not true. If the knuckles are swaped the studs are swaped also. Therefore the brakes will swap also. Sorry I must have been
