: Numbness in hand
Paul Gagnon 12-08-2003, 06:11 PM My hand has been numb since this morning at around 9am because I was leaning on something and must have pinched a nerve. It's slowly going away but not nearly as fast as I'd like it to. Any ideas on how to make it go away quicker?
And no, I'm not having a heart attack or stroke. :flipoff2:
Could be tendonitis Paul. I get that, or did till I got a new hammer, if I was swingin my hammer all day.
pyros46290 12-08-2003, 06:13 PM put the dead hand in your pants and start feelin around. works great cuz you almost forget that its you :flipoff2:
Buddha's Ghost 12-08-2003, 06:14 PM Shake it back and forth really fast
Get someone to massage it
Soak it in water that's as hot as you can bear.
Paul Gagnon 12-08-2003, 06:22 PM We had a demonstration on thread cutting in class today. I was leaning on the steady rest on the lathe because I was tired. ;) When my hand and forearm first started tingling I was kinda worried because it seemed to come out of nowhere. Then I retraced my steps and went back over to the lathe I had been leaning on and re-enacted the incedent. :cow: There was an immediate reaction so I know that is the cause. I just wish it would go the hell away now. :shaking:
I'm going to try the hot water thing and see what happens.

Sounds like might be the start of carprel Tunnel *I know the spelling isn't right but o well LOL* My Dad had the same symptoms, and i've had it happen before to.
Berzerker 12-08-2003, 06:47 PM I've had a weird problem with my hands going numb also
Over the last few weeks I'll wake up a few times during the night and on both hands my pinky and ring finger along with that half of my hand they're on will be asleep. It also happens sometimes if I don't move them around much like when I'm reading or something

Sounds like ulnar nerve impingement. (not sure of the spelling of that). Sometimes it's "curable"... sometimes damage is done permanently. See an orthopedic specialist (or marry a physical therapist) and they can test it.
Kilby 12-08-2003, 07:02 PM As for paul...
Hot water & massage are your best bets... anything to stimulate blood flow. heh heh.. STIMULATE.

bk005 12-08-2003, 07:36 PM I went to the doc on friday for this same reason. It was waking me up at night and lasting all day. Doc said I had good ciruclation, and it might be carpel tunnel. He did say that it could be pinched nerve, and if not taken to a specialist could wind up with some probs. My wife bought me those gay ass gloves to wear, I tried them last night and couldnt tell much difference, just a waste of 40 bucks. So Im waiting to get refered to a specialist and see whats up, Never had any med probs before, and this is really getting annoying. If you find something out post up.

Probably the angle your hands are at during reading...or your laying on them during sleep (don't say you know for sure).

Jaffer 12-09-2003, 03:56 AM I had something simular a while back. Woke up with it one morning. At first I assumed I'd just slept on it wrong but then thought for sure it was carpal tunnel. My hand not only tingled, it was painfull to even move my wrist and it went on for a week.
My orthopedic surgeon didn't think it was carpal because of how quickly it came on, more like a pinched nerve he said.
He put my wrist and forearm in a cast for several weeks and I haven't had any trouble with it since.
Find a good wrist brace ... one of the good ones with a metal bar and Velcro and wear it night and day for a while to give the nerve a chance to heal.

Paul Gagnon 12-09-2003, 05:50 AM I've got most of the feeling back now but there is still some numbness in the heal of my hand. I might pop into the doctor's office today after class and see what they've got to say.
